To the Apple enthusiasts, metaverse was over when the iPhone bearer made it clear by not using the term ‘metaverse’ during the WorldWide Developer Conference 2023 (WWDC23), an annual technology conference by the tech giant. They are more inclined on spatial computing. It seems like they have begun to dig a path to their desired destination.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-company-sends-out-invitation-to-employees-strong">Company Sends Out Invitation to Employees</h2>
AppleInsider, a news provider focused on Apple, reported the company may start to train its retail employees to use Vision Pro, their upcoming mixed reality (MR) head-mounted device (HMD). Citing a newsletter by Bloomberg’s chief correspondent Mark Gurman, the article reads, “Apple has sent out a memo to retail employees asking them to apply to take part in a “product training event.”
The company reportedly plans to bring the product to the general public globally next year. The world has already had a glimpse at the mixed reality headset during WWDC23. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned analyst, Apple may ship less Vision Pro units than expected. His forecast cuts down other anticipations of a million units by almost half.
Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook), a metaverse company and a rival of Apple’s, recently launched their mixed reality headset Meta Quest 3. Unlike the iPhone maker, they are primarily focused on the metaverse. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, rebranded the company’s name during the Meta Connect 2021.
He said, “Today we are seen as a social media company, but in our DNA we are a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started.” The company’s family of apps currently dominates the social media sector.
The term metaverse envisions a future full of different interconnected virtual worlds. However, no perfect definition exists for the concept. Some even believe it is <a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2023/10/18/metaverse-could-have-been-here-should-silicon-valley-had-focused/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">dead</a> already. However, Mark Zuckerberg isn’t giving up on it. His <a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2023/10/04/metaverse-is-alive-and-it-is-photorealistic-just-not-mainstream/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">interview</a> with American computer scientist and podcaster, Lex Fridman, gave a glimpse of the hyper-realism their company is developing in context with digital avatars.
He explained the product is still in a seemingly ‘beta stage.’ Zuckerberg said, “It’s not ready to be like a kind of mainstream product yet but we just want to, we’ll keep tuning in, keep getting more scans in there.” It is, as the company claims, currently the best gadget in its fleet of products.
Mixed reality, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and more are core technologies required to access the metaverse. However, being posh during their initial launch is likely to affect the adoption of these products.
