The market share of Bitcoin in the cryptocurrency industry has risen to more than 49%, indicating its growing dominance.
<h2 id="span-style-font-weight-400-bitcoin-dominance-surges-significantly-span">Bitcoin Dominance Surges Significantly</h2>
According to The Block’s data <a href="https://www.theblock.co/data/crypto-markets/prices/bitcoin-dominance" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">dashboard</a>, Bitcoin’s dominance in the cryptocurrency market has reached its highest level in over two years. Starting the year at about 38%, Bitcoin’s market has surged to 48.85% as of October 21, representing the highest point it has reached since April 2021.
<h3 id="span-style-font-weight-400-a-year-long-uptrend-span">A Year-Long Uptrend</h3>
According to the <a href="https://www.theblock.co/post/258844/bitcoin-dominance-hits-highest-point-in-over-two-years" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">report</a>, this increase in dominance can be linked to a year-long upward trend in Bitcoin’s value, with the cryptocurrency’s price surging by 81% since the start of the year. Rebecca Stevens from The Block Research noted that the rise in dominance indicates that the cryptocurrency is maintaining its strength in the current market conditions and has been performing positively throughout much of the week.
<h2 id="span-style-font-weight-400-inflation-and-bitcoin-span">Inflation and Bitcoin</h2>
Stevens noted: “Inflation woes, geopolitical risk, and an increasingly partisan U.S. government have been weighing on investors who are looking to minimize risk.”
He further added:&nbsp; “Meanwhile, bitcoin seems closer than ever to getting a spot ETF approval and in a certain sense serves as an ideological hedge to the uncertainty on the world stage, helping it reclaim more dominance in the crypto space.”
<h3 id="span-style-font-weight-400-institutional-adoption-span">Institutional Adoption</h3>
Bitcoin is often regarded as a promising investment option because of its potential for substantial growth and enduring value over the long term. In its latest financial report, Tesla, the innovative Electric Vehicle (EV) maker, disclosed that it had maintained its <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/tesla-maintains-bitcoin-holdings-amid-ai-expansion-in-q3-2023/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">significant Bitcoin holdings</a> for the fifth consecutive quarter.
In a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, it’s been revealed that much like Tesla, the United States federal government has entered the cryptocurrency arena in a substantial way, focusing on Bitcoin (BTC). According to the report, the <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/us-government-holds-more-than-5b-in-bitcoin-btc/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">government’s holdings of more than 200,000 BTC</a> are now worth over $5 billion.
