Reddit has recently decided to discontinue its blockchain-based reward service known as “Community Points”. As <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/17a33ql/serious_sunsetting_community_points_beta_and/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">announced</a>, this strategic move is primarily due to the challenges faced in scaling and the increasingly stringent regulatory environment surrounding cryptocurrency projects.
Community Points on Reddit were a type of digital currency that users could earn and spend within specific communities on the platform. 
These points provided various benefits such as exclusive content access, voting power, and special badges, among others. Meanwhile, the introduction of blockchain technology is aimed at enhancing transparency, security, and decentralization within the reward system.

However, as the American social media company delved deeper into the implementation and management of the blockchain-based reward system, it encountered significant difficulties in scaling the platform effectively. It became apparent that maintaining the desired level of user experience and keeping up with the growing demand was becoming increasingly challenging.
Also, the decision was influenced by the regulatory landscape surrounding cryptocurrency projects. Governments and regulatory bodies around the world have been grappling with how to effectively regulate and oversee digital currencies.
The constantly evolving and sometimes uncertain regulations posed additional challenges and complexities for Reddit’s blockchain-based reward system. To ensure compliance and avoid potential legal issues, Reddit ultimately deemed it necessary to discontinue its service.
<h2 id="b-community-point-service-will-be-shut-down-next-month-b">Community Point Service will be Shut Down Next Month</h2>
Notably, the company will be shutting down the Community Point service on November 8th. Afterwards, users will not be able to have access to the Points in their Reddit Vault nor will they be able to earn more Points in the community.
While the closure of the service is a setback, it also serves as a learning opportunity for both Reddit and the broader tech community. Specifically, Reddit said it is scaling several products that will accomplish all the Community Points program was trying to accomplish, with less stress and easy adoption.
<h2 id="b-reddit-is-making-waves-in-the-nft-industry-b">Reddit is Making Waves in the NFT Industry</h2>
Polygon-based Collectible avatars, used as avatars on Reddit’s social networking site, have been <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/reddit-witnesses-highest-digital-collectible-mints-in-a-single-day/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">recognized as an effective implementation of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)</a> to mass consumers.
According to a report, <a href="https://thecoinrise.com/reddit-planning-to-bring-its-own-nft-platform/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Reddit launched 90 unique NFT designs</a> with “tens of thousands” of NFTs available for purchase in the early-access phase. They reportedly claimed that if one purchased one of their limited-edition NFTs, one could use it as an avatar anywhere, not just on Reddit.
