The Vancouver-based firm is utilizing powerful graphic processing units (GPUs) and renewable energy. Having started in 2017, HIVE was the first publicly traded cryptocurrency mining company. Their portfolio includes listings on major exchanges like the Toronto Stock Exchange, Frankfurt Stock Exchange, and Nasdaq. 
In a strategic shift, HIVE rebranded in July 2023. The new name, HIVE Digital Technologies, mirrors their expanding role in the AI sector, focusing on <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/kaspa-takes-the-lead-in-gpu-mining-sets-sights-on-transforming-pow-landscape/">GPU</a> cloud. With AI's rapid development, Kilic is confident about HIVE's leadership in delivering the needed computing technology. He emphasizes that building and operating large language models (LLMs) require vast amounts of GPUs. 
Having pioneered GPU-based crypto mining, HIVE boasts an impressive track record. Their global operations harness over 38,000 Nvidia GPUs, outpacing other public crypto-mining enterprises. Kilic announced plans to deploy 3,200 GPUs in the HPC/AI domain by October 2023. This represents a whopping eight-fold growth from their initial 400 GPU beta test. Furthermore, they aim to achieve $15 million in annual revenue from this evolving business segment by year-end. 
But HIVE isn't just about innovation. Sustainability remains at their core. While they'll continue Bitcoin mining, their commitment to eco-friendly practices is unwavering. They operate in energy-efficient conditions, using hydroelectric and geothermal power in places like Quebec, New Brunswick, Sweden, and Iceland. Notably, their crypto mining leaves zero carbon footprints. 
HIVE's green efforts don't stop there. They've innovatively recycled excess heat from their servers. For instance, in Quebec, a neighboring swimming pool manufacturer benefits from HIVE's "waste" heat. Similarly, a Swedish greenhouse, near the Arctic Pole, will produce over 1,000 tons of vegetables annually using this heat. HIVE is undeniably paving the way in green tech solutions.
