In a groundbreaking move, SNK, renowned for its iconic fighting titles like The King of Fighters, has unveiled an ambitious plan, the “SNK Universe Project,” signaling a strategic expansion into various entertainment mediums. The aim is to bolster global awareness and appreciation of their intellectual properties (IPs) on an unprecedented scale. This venture marks a significant departure from their traditional focus on fighting games, as the company sets its sights on manga, movies, anime, and music to captivate audiences worldwide.

SNK is set to shake up the upcoming New York Comic Con 2023 with an anticipated joint booth alongside Shueisha. The partnership intends to showcase the immersive potential of SNK’s vast universe, with a special movie presentation within the booth promising a unique “Manga Dive Experience.” This immersive showcase aims to delve deep into the intricate world and rich history of their celebrated franchise, The King of Fighters (KOF), which has held a strong presence since the early 1990s. Notably, fans can anticipate glimpses of other beloved SNK IPs such as Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, and Samurai Shodown.
While this move represents a bold stride for SNK, it isn’t their first foray into diverse entertainment avenues for their IPs. Previous attempts, including an anime film adaptation for Fatal Fury and a live-action film based on The King of Fighters, faced lackluster receptions. However, it seems SNK has drawn lessons from these experiences and is poised to harness their creative potential fully this time.
Furthermore, speculation is rife that the event might unveil additional details about the much-anticipated Fatal Fury: City of Wolves. This title has been eagerly awaited as the long-awaited sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves, a game revered as one of the finest in the fighting genre. With fans patiently biding their time for over two decades, hopes are high that SNK will provide a concrete release date or timeframe during this event.
As SNK continues to push the boundaries of entertainment and storytelling, their venture into an immersive, multi-dimensional approach to their IPs undoubtedly marks a significant chapter in the company’s storied history. With the SNK Universe Project taking center stage, all eyes are on the company to see how they bring their iconic characters and narratives to life across various mediums, captivating fans both old and new alike.
