<a href="https://ultramining.com/news/marathon-digital-povyshaet-energoeffektivnost-s-pomoshhyu-majnerov-s19-xp/">Marathon Digital</a>, a mining company, recently faced an embarrassing mishap. They mined an invalid block, numbered 809478, containing a flawed transaction. Specifically, Bitcoin was spent before it was received, causing Coinbase to lose a reward of 6.25 BTC, which is approximately $150,000, according to <a href="https://newscryptocoin.com/news/nedejstvitelnyj-blok-marathon-digital-otklonyon-vsemi-nodami-bitkoina/">NewsCryptoCoin</a>. 
As a result, full nodes on the Bitcoin network logged an error. This error indicated that the block contained either missing or already spent bitcoins. In turn, this violates Bitcoin's consensus rules. Because of this violation, tens of thousands of nodes on the network rejected <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/marathon-digital-povyshaet-energoeffektivnost-s-pomoshhyu-majnerov-s19-xp/">Marathon Digital</a>'s block. 
The invalid block could not be validated. Subsequently, the company couldn't obtain confirmation for a single block built on this faulty foundation. Therefore, Marathon had to abandon its work and restart the mining process. According to reports, the cause of the issue was a small bug in the experimental code that the company was testing. Importantly, this experimental code was not intended to alter Bitcoin Core operations. 
James Lopp, co-founder of Casa, confirmed the robustness of the Bitcoin network. Node operators continued to reject the flawed block and removed it from their mempools. For this reason, the problematic Marathon block has now expired completely and will never be part of the Bitcoin blockchain. Bitcoin developer 0xB10C offered an explanation, suggesting that Marathon was probably running experiments on a custom block template in the test network. Accidentally, it seems they applied this to the main network. 
In conclusion, this incident reaffirms the resilience and reliability of the Bitcoin network. Its built-in safety measures effectively identified and rejected an invalid block, preserving the integrity of the blockchain.&nbsp;&nbsp;
