Crypto analyst Daniel Batten has sparked a conversation on Bitcoin's green credentials. In a series of <a href="https://twitter.com/DSBatten/status/1706162501040345148" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">tweets</a> and accompanying charts, he presents compelling data that challenge widespread criticisms of Bitcoin's environmental impact.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
Batten's first chart indicates that Bitcoin mining is now the most sustainably-powered global industry with a 38% rate in sustainable energy. This flies in the face of the commonly held belief that Bitcoin is an environmental black hole. Another chart underscores Bitcoin's constant emissions despite exponential growth. According to Batten, no matter how you measure its growth—<a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/impending-bitcoin-halving-may-trigger-major-hashrate-decline-say-experts/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hashrate</a>, price, or users—the emissions stay the same over a four-year cycle, a feat unmatched by any industry. 
A third chart reveals that Bitcoin has cut its emission intensity by half within four years. The data shows that Bitcoin now emits 299 grams of CO2 per kWh, making it the industry with the lowest emission intensity. Moreover, Bitcoin's major energy source is hydroelectric power. Because its operations are not tied to the coal-heavy global grid, it remains the only major industry where fossil fuels aren't the primary power source. 
In the final chart, Batten lays out Bitcoin's four-year growth rates. The <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/impending-bitcoin-halving-may-trigger-major-hashrate-decline-say-experts/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hashrate</a> increased by 475%, the price by 163%, and total users by 289%, yet emissions reduced by 9.4%. These numbers provide a counter-narrative to the idea that Bitcoin’s growth is detrimental to the environment. 
Batten's analysis comes at a time when the environmental impact of cryptocurrencies is under intense scrutiny. His data challenges the mainstream narrative and could catalyze a shift in public and regulatory perception.
