Ethereum, one of the leading blockchain networks, announced the launch of its new testnet named Holesky in July 2023. According to the report, it is the largest testnet on the blockchain as it is almost twice as big as its mainnet. The testnet will also reportedly boost testing capabilities while replacing Goerli. 
Unfortunately, the long-awaited Holesky testnet on the blockchain will be launched with a delay. According to Ethereum developers (devs), due to a parameter discrepancy, the Holesky testnet launch may take more time. It is reportedly expected to launch later this month. 
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-ethereum-network-s-latest-testnet-launch-strong">Ethereum Network’s Latest Testnet Launch</h2> 
Ethereum network’s Holesky testnet failed to launch while the blockchain devs said “There was a misconfiguration in the genesis files of the test network.” However, they plan to try again in about two weeks. 
Notably, the Holesky testnet launch was initiated on September 15, 2023, Friday, to reach a technological milestone. It was supposed to serve as a celebration of the first anniversary of last year’s historic “Merge” upgrade from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS). 
According to Ethereum core devs, some validators were able to manually start the test network. As they said, “There was a misconfiguration in one of the genesis files of the network.” Eventually, blockchain’s core devs decided to “postpone the launch for about two weeks, giving them time to regroup.” 
This happening shows a rare gaffe for Ethereum, which over the past year has managed to implement key upgrades. Notably, it was about a year ago to the “Merge” whereas the “Shapella” update happened in April this year. 
<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-what-will-happen-now-strong">What Will Happen Now?</h3> 
According to the report, after the latest <a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2023/04/07/ethereum-brings-re-staking-eigenlayer-protocol-on-the-testnet/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">testnet </a>failure, the developers can still use Goerli. Ethereum devs created the latest Holesky testnet to replace one of blockchain’s current testnets, Goerli. The Goerli testnet is still live, so devs can still test their applications on that network. The devs reportedly plan to sunset Goerli early next year. 
On the other hand, Holesky is supposed to ease some scaling issues for the blockchain network. The devs are intended to allow twice as many validators to join the network compared to the mainnet. 
The latest testnet is also supposed to be critical for Ethereum’s next hard fork, Dencun. As per the report in Dencun, a technical feature, proto-dank sharding, aimed at scaling the blockchain, is “supposed to go live.” 
Notably, the latest testnet launch was supposed to mark the first anniversary of the “<a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2023/09/15/ethereum-merge-anniversary-energy-down-99-at-cost-of-centralization/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Merge</a>.” That was Ethereum’s historic event when the blockchain network became a PoS blockchain and swapped out its old, energy-intensive PoW model.
