<p><strong>Optimism, a popular Ethereum Layer 2 network, has made a generous announcement regarding the unclaimed funds from its first airdrop.</strong></p>

<p>Optimism’s first airdrop began on June 1, 2022, and it initially allocated a hefty 215 million tokens for distribution. Impressively, 166 million of these tokens found their way to eager participants who claimed their airdrop tokens before the recent announcement. However, approximately 25% of the eligible addresses <a href="https://www.theblock.co/post/251351/optimism-to-distribute-unclaimed-funds-from-first-airdrop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">didn’t seize this opportunity</a>.</p>

<p>The big news is that Optimism has decided to distribute the remaining unclaimed tokens directly to those who qualify. This means that those who missed out on claiming the airdrop earlier will still receive their fair share.</p>

<p>Optimism had promised to share 19% of its initial token supply through airdrops, and after conducting two airdrops, they still have 13.73% of their initial supply left. Notably, there hasn’t been any word about a third airdrop yet.</p>

<p>The Optimism team took a proactive step by distributing all the unclaimed OP tokens from its inaugural airdrop. This distribution process began on September 15 and lasted for almost 12 hours. In the end, a staggering 48 million OP tokens reached over 88,000 unique addresses.</p>

By directly distributing the remainder of the airdrop, they can concentrate on other essential smart contract work and potential future airdrops.</p>
