<a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/iris-energy-diversifies-into-ai-with-10-million-nvidia-gpu-purchase-amid-bitcoin-focus/">Iris Energy</a> has turned the tide in the fiscal year 2023, marking a period of transformation and substantial revenue growth. On Wednesday, the renowned Bitcoin mining firm, which boasts 100% renewable energy operation, unveiled a staggering surge in its annual revenue. The significant rise to $75.5 million, up from $59 million the previous year, emanates primarily from an uptick in Bitcoin mining, according to <a href="https://www.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/iris-energy-reports-transformational-year-with-increased-bitcoin-mining-revenue-93CH-3173989">investing</a>. 
In addition, the firm showcased its heightened mining capabilities, having mined 3,259 Bitcoins, more than double the 1,399 mined in 2022. Consequently, this spike is attributed to the escalation in the operating <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/impending-bitcoin-halving-may-trigger-major-hashrate-decline-say-experts/">hashrate</a>, which touched an impressive 5.6 EH/s. Simultaneously, <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/iris-energy-diversifies-into-ai-with-10-million-nvidia-gpu-purchase-amid-bitcoin-focus/">Iris Energy</a> amplified its power capacity, reaching a remarkable 760MW and setting the stage for a potential expansion to 30 EH/s. 
Furthermore, the co-CEO of the company, Daniel Roberts, shared an enthusiastic outlook towards the impending developments. Indeed, he pinpointed the next-gen compute and generative AI strategy as prospective avenues of growth for the firm. Nevertheless, this growth trajectory hasn't been without its challenges. 
Specifically, the fiscal year 2023 witnessed a spike in the firm’s operational expenses. Notably, the <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-mining-with-flare-gas-a-green-solution-or-environmental-setback/">electricity</a> costs skyrocketed to $35.8 million, a significant jump from $11 million recorded in the fiscal year 2022. This increment is closely linked to the augmented operating <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/impending-bitcoin-halving-may-trigger-major-hashrate-decline-say-experts/">hashrate</a> and the inception of three new sites during the year. Moreover, the other costs burgeoned to $38.3 million, reflecting the company’s ambition to expand beyond the current capacity. 
Despite the significant increase in revenue, the firm encountered a net loss amounting to $171.9 million post income tax. This figure, however, denotes a decrease from the previous year's loss of $419.8 million. This reduction mirrors the influence of non-cash mark-to-market conversions of instruments into equity during the IPO in the preceding period. Furthermore, the financial report indicated a non-cash impairment charge of $105.2 million in the fiscal year 2023.
