Bitcoin experienced a further decline in its value early Thursday, dropping to a low of $28,346 – a value not seen since June 21. 
This decrease amplifies Wednesday’s 1.6% slide, which resonated with a broader sentiment of risk aversion on Wall Street.

Mainstream U.S. stocks faced a dip earlier this week due to revitalized concerns in the banking sector and looming recession fears in China. 
This turbulent environment for Bitcoin follows closely on the heels of a recent report by the U.S. Commodity and Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). 
The report on the commitment of traders (COT) highlighted that leveraged funds, including hedge funds and commodity trading advisors, have substantially increased their bearish positions on the CME-listed cash-settled bitcoin futures as of the week ending August 8.

According to Lawrence Lewitinn, the director of content at crypto analytics company The Tie, “Two-thirds of their positions are short (shown in red) versus one-third long (shown in blue). That’s the widest it’s been since April 2022.” Lewitinn’s observations were shared in a recent weekly newsletter. 
Surprisingly, the cryptocurrency market seems to be largely unresponsive to recent beneficial developments specific to the crypto realm. 
Among these positive events is the unveiling of a stablecoin by <a href="https://crypto.ro/en/news/paypal-unveils-its-own-stablecoin-to-boost-digital-payments-adoption/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">PayPal</a> – a global juggernaut in the financial services sector. 
Additionally, there’s been a significant increase in applications for futures-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs) related to ether (ETH). Yet, these bullish developments have failed to stir a positive sentiment in the volatile crypto market.
