<p>The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appealed a July court ruling that XRP should not be classified as a security when sold to retail investors. In a letter to Judge Analisa Torres, the regulator has asked for the case to be put on hold during the appeal process, stating that other pending court cases could be affected. The SEC is currently embroiled in legal battles with several cryptocurrency firms over alleged securities violations. In August, Judge Torres ruled that the XRP token was not in itself security but that sales of the token could be securities in certain circumstances.</p>
