Brazil Unveils Drex: Official Name for Central Bank Digital Currency

Brazil's central bank digital currency (CBDC) now has an official name: Drex. The Central Bank of Brazil unveiled the brand, which stands for "Real Digital Electronic X." The logo features evolving arrows, symbolizing the transition from fiat currency to digital, with blue to light green colors indicating transaction completion. Concerns arise as a developer found code allowing fund freezes, while an economist sees potential to prevent bank runs. In a similar move, the Central Bank of Russia introduced the digital ruble's visual identity with a circular ruble symbol in multiple color combinations.
