The highly controversial crypto project, Worldcoin, made its public debut on July 24, inviting users to scan their irises at designated locations in 20 countries and earn 25 Worlcoins (WLD), the native token of the project.   
Despite garnering an impressive 2 million pre-signups, the interest seems to have dwindled after the official launch. The first day saw initial enthusiasm, with Hong Kong registering the highest number of signups.   
However, the subsequent contrast in sign-up numbers suggests a lack of sustained enthusiasm. Let's explore the details of Worldcoin's post-launch journey and the challenges faced by this unique iris scanning initiative.   
On its debut day, Worldcoin witnessed significant interest, with Hong Kong emerging as the frontrunner in terms of signups.   
The city's three designated spots, known as "Orbs," attracted about 200 signups each, making Hong Kong the top performer among the 20 countries included in the launch.   
Despite the initial burst of interest, the momentum appears to have waned following the project's official launch. The contrast in sign-up numbers before and after the launch is evident, signaling a potential decline in user engagement.   
Worldcoin's early onboarding strategy faced significant controversies. An MIT report suggested that the project's developers attracted the first million signups using questionable tactics, including deceptions and cash handouts, particularly in developing countries with less robust data laws.   
The crypto community, including prominent figures like Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, has closely scrutinized Worldcoin's iris scanning initiative. Concerns have been raised about the project's methods of attracting users and its overall legitimacy.   
In defense of its iris scanning project, Worldcoin has maintained that it does not collect any personal information and is capable of deleting biometric data upon user request. This assertion aims to alleviate concerns about privacy and data security.   
Cointelegraph attempted to verify the exact number of signups after the launch, reaching out to Worldcoin for clarification. As of now, no response has been received regarding the precise number of sign-ups following the project's official launch.
