European Central Bank (ECB) board member Fabio Panetta has criticized cryptocurrency, calling it a harmful product that does not benefit society. Panetta believes that instead of transforming into an innovative financial form, cryptocurrency has become a harmful one. 
<h2 id="ecb-official-crypto-has-turned-into-gambling">ECB Official: Crypto Has Turned into Gambling!</h2> 
Panetta argues that due to the volatile nature of crypto assets, they have turned into gambling. He believes that global regulators need to address cryptocurrency specifically in this regard. Panetta, known for his anti-crypto statements, said that policymakers should be cautious about supporting a sector that has not provided any social benefits so far and is increasingly trying to integrate into the traditional financial system to gain legitimacy and rely on it. 
Panetta maintains his strong views, stating that the security and decentralization in the crypto space will not be successful and therefore clear regulation is needed. Pointing to the collapse of Bitcoin last year, Panetta claims that despite its innovative appearance, cryptocurrency has taken on a harmful structure for society. 
He also notes that the crypto ecosystem is full of flaws that can be addressed with regulatory measures.
