As the blockchain space and its usability grows, the need for being able to move assets between different networks proves to be more important than ever. Nowadays, most projects are trying to exist on various blockchains at the same time in order to improve their accessibility and to attract new users for their services. However, there is one problem with making this cross-chain transactions. Each blockchain operates based on a set of rules and each transaction needs to be made under these rules. To make each blockchain more secure, these sets of rules are different and unique to their own blockchain, making it impossible to interact with other network. But there are solutions to this problem and one of the solutions to the “cross-chain” problem is to use bridges.As a part of our development plan and roadmap update, we have decided to expand our world to different networks and blockchains. Our team has been working tirelessly on the matter and we feel like it is the right time to let the community know about our progress.In this article, we are going to investigate what bridges are, how they could be integrated into Metaverser and how becoming multichain could help our project and our community.<h2 id="header-0">What Are Bridges?</h2>While the metaverse envisions a vast interconnected network of virtual environments, each with its own rules and economies, achieving true interoperability poses a significant challenge. This is where blockchain bridges come into play, acting as connectors that enable seamless interaction and data transfer between different virtual worlds and their respective blockchain ecosystems.The concept of a bridge in the blockchain environment is quite close to the one in the physical world in the sense that they both help transferring and connection. In terms of blockchain, a blockchain bridge connects two different ecosystems that are built on two separate blockchains. Bridges could help users transfer assets and information cross-chain and gain access to different networks benefits. It alsoenables dapps to work on different networks simultaneously and helps developers to collaborate and develop better, stronger dapps for users.There are several ways to bridge assets across different networks but one of the main methods is wrapped assets. Wrapped assets are a form of representation of a specific asset on a different blockchain. It involves “wrapping” or “locking” the original asset on one blockchain and creating an equivalent representation of that asset on the target blockchain. This is called “lock and mint” and the token can be traded and utilized within the second blockchain’s ecosystem. The wrapped tokens are backed by the original asset, which remains locked or held in reserve, ensuring the value and integrity of the wrapped tokens. The reverse transaction is done via “burn and release” by burning the wrapped token on the destination chain and unlocking the native token on the original blockchain.<img src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/1*EiOkaGz3C0OIgU54xt4PRA.jpeg" />The method explained above is commonly used for fungible tokens but with the advents in the NFT space and a substantial increase in their usage, they too require bridging and availability on multiple chains which can be done via the “lock and mint” method just like fungible tokens.<h2 id="header-1">Constructing Bridges for Metaverser</h2>There are three types of assets related to Metaverser that needs to be bridged to different networks. One is Metaverser’s fungible token, MTVT, which is native to the BNB smart chain and the others are M-Assets which are all the land NFTs and Metaverser Items (MITM), NFT tokens which represent different in-game items. Our team has used various token standards for different types of assets for a more robust metaverse. MTVT token contract is written with ERC-20 standard, M-Assets are ERC-721 tokens and finally, in-game items are created with ERC-1155 standard.Our development team is currently in the final stages of integrating a bridge into Metaverser. As of the time of writing, we are intending to use wrapped asset method for both MTVT and our NFTs. We have decided that we should target multiple chains for obvious reasons that will be explained later in the article. Target chains are being thoroughly investigated and additional details and any possible changes of plan will be announced in a subsequent article once they are confirmed.<h2 id="header-2">Why Are We Becoming Multichain?</h2>At Metaverser, we believe that being constantly active in terms of development can benefit the project and its community the best. Integrating bridges into Metaverser project or in other words going multichain can bring several significant benefits to Metaverser. Here are some reasons why we have decided to work on the matter with full concentration and passion:1. New Target Market: One of the most vital aspects of a cross-chain Metaverser is that we can expand our reach to users on different blockchains and thus improve both our game and social engagement drastically. The are many potential players and communities which have remained untapped because of being only on one blockchain.2. Interoperability and Expanded Connectivity: By incorporating bridges and supporting multiple blockchain networks, Metaverser can achieve interoperability and connect various virtual worlds and their associated ecosystems. This connectivity allows users to seamlessly navigate between different metaverse domains, tradeassets, and engage in cross-platform activities. It expands the reach and potential of the metaverse, fostering a vibrant and interconnected digital universe.3. Access to Diverse Blockchain Features: Different blockchain networks offer unique features and capabilities. By going multichain, Metaverser can leverage the strengths of multiple blockchains, accessing various functionalities, such as scalability, privacy, smart contract capabilities, consensus mechanisms, and governance models. This diversity allows developers to choose the most suitable blockchain for specific use cases within the metaverse, optimizing performance and user experience.4. Scalability and Performance: Scaling Metaverser to accommodate a growing user base and increasing transaction volumes is a crucial consideration. By adopting a multichain approach, a project can distribute the workload across multiple blockchain networks, improving scalability and overall performance. Different blockchains can handle transactions in parallel, reducing congestion and potential bottlenecks, resulting in a smoother and more efficient metaverse experience.5. Risk Mitigation and Enhanced Security: Relying on a single blockchain network for an entire metaverse project carries inherent risks. If that network experiences congestion, technical issues, or security vulnerabilities, the entire metaverse may suffer. By integrating bridges and supporting multiple blockchains, the project diversifies its infrastructure and mitigates risks associated with a single point of failure. This approach enhances security, resiliency, and reduces the impact of potential disruptions.6. Flexibility and Future-Proofing: The blockchain landscape is rapidly evolving, with new protocols and technologies emerging regularly. By going multichain, Metaverser ensures flexibility and adaptability to future developments in the blockchain space. It allows the project to seamlessly integrate new blockchain networks or upgrade to improved versions, incorporating the latest advancements without significant disruptions to the metaverse’s operations.7. Community and Ecosystem Collaboration: Embracing multiple blockchain networks and bridges encourages collaboration within the broader blockchain community. It enables partnerships and integrations with different blockchain projects, fostering a vibrant ecosystem. By working together, projects can share resources, cross-pollinate ideas, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the metaverse concept.<h2 id="header-3">Conclusion</h2>Metaverser has a functioning product and is actually doing what many other projects only promise to do. But it cannot be overlooked that the metaverse sector is constantly evolving and our vision will be achieved easier with interoperability, connectivity, scalability, security and future-readiness. We have concluded that one of the big milestones in our roadmap is to be present on different blockchains so that we can develop, communicate, build and grow with a wider range of communities in order to reach our goals in the best way possible.
