Flux

WordPress powers more than 43% of websites on the internet. Now, it is finally available in a decentralized manner on the Flux Web3 infrastructure. We are excited to share the soft release of WordPress Beta! WordPress has been one of the most popular tools for creating websites for twenty years, and for a good reason. The content management software is easy to set up and use, making it a valuable tool for business owners with technical expertise.
In addition, this content management software provides users with the option of expanding their website functionality with the use of powerful plugins. So, while WordPress was developed initially as a blogging program, it is also flexible enough to create more complex applications like Ecommerce sites, Forums, and almost any kind of website due to the open-source nature of its codebase.
Thanks to Flux, business owners, developers, and other users can now run their WordPress websites on a vast, decentralized cloud infrastructure.
An important question to address, however, is;
Why run your WordPress on Flux while thousands of hosting providers are out there?
Here’s why:
Performance and Scalability
The design of Flux infrastructure allows it to provide WordPress websites with a faster and more optimized experience. Flux uses enterprise-grade hardware to host its nodes, allowing the server to clock speedier response speeds.
(You can find a typical comparison of the performance and response time of WordPress on Flux vs. conventional web2 hosts here.)
Flux runs a network of horizontally redundant nodes that ensure that applications remain life even if one node goes down. This significant factor culminates in increased uptime and high availability of WordPress websites running on Flux.
Owners can also scale their applications to match the traffic and computational resources required by upgrading or downgrading their website’s node tier.
Enhanced Usability
Like every other Flux product, deploying a WordPress application on Flux requires little to no technical expertise. Users can register their website and run on Flux cloud using the one-page install feature in just a few steps. Register your website, choose the node tier you want to run, make payment, and deploy.
Geolocation Support:
All applications running on Flux Cloud now benefit from the recent Geolocation support, and with WordPress, this will be no different.
Owners can choose specific geographical locations from which to spawn their applications. This way, they can control the number of instances their application runs on and allocate resources to places with a higher demand for the application.
Efficient allocation of computational resources means owners can scale their businesses while cutting unnecessary costs.
Cost-Effectiveness
Hosting WordPress on Flux is cheaper and more cost-effective than other available options. For example, WordPress hosting options on Bluehost go for $2.75 per month, and Godaddy for about $9.99 monthly.
However, Flux provides an alternative of only $2.74 for bloggers, small businesses, and startups running on a tight budget that keeps speed and performance strong. In Flux maxim is “Cheaper and Better.” However, only the standard version will be available at beta release for 6.84 FLUX (or $5.76 when writing this article).
The future payment option will come with a fiat ramp that allows users to pay in fiat currency, and there are also ongoing plans for a $Flux crypto payment alternative.
Beyond these apparent advantages, WordPress on Flux introduces new potentials to the Web3 ecosystem. There are already plugins for integrating decentralized functionality on WordPress, and now, Flux's decentralized backend might be the last piece of the puzzle.
Also, with the recent launch of Flux IPFS, users will now have access to decentralized storage to store their files right on the Flux ecosystem, giving them access to higher capacity, quick backup, and data retrieval.
Decentralized WordPress will also play a critical role in bridging the Web2-Web3 transition. Since it already holds 43% of the CMS market share and over 1000 new users come aboard WordPress daily, decentralized WordPress can become an important tool that shortens the learning curve for people new to Web3 technologies.

Technical insight on how our decentralized WordPress works:
When you launch a WordPress instance on Flux, you are running at least three servers. Each server will run three components, Each with pre-assigned resources based on your chosen plan.
The following components are involved in a Web3 WordPress solution:

WordPress: You will be running a pre-made docker with the latest version of WordPress (6.1.1), with NGINX as a web server.

Flux Decentralized DB solution: This is based on MySQL, the preferred WordPress database.

Flux Operator: This is the “brains” of the operation and is responsible for synchronizing the databases. It tracks the cluster created and reaches out to other nodes to identify the primary node and resync the database to keep it up to date. The Flux Operator obtains cluster information from the Flux Blockchain, enabling it to link nodes running the same WordPress instance.

Syncthing: Flux uses Syncthing to synchronize files between nodes, specifically the WWW directories in the WordPress setup.

Flux BlockChain: The Flux chain is where you register your WordPress instance; this is where the resource assignments are logged, the duration of hosting, custom domains that were chosen and where all running instances are stored, and more…

Flux FDM: Flux Domain-Manager is responsible for domains, certificates, and load balancing across the entire Flux Network.
