So, some things we share here, might not ever come to fruition, but our goal will be to set clear expectations and communicate with you all about the upcoming roadmap and priorities.</blockquote>This <a href="https://medium.com/&#64;bloktopia/bloktopia-developer-diaries-1-1827868741ba" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">weekly Developer Diary update</a> sees us explore the optimisation of various different assets, both within and related to Bloktopia.This has been a key focus for our Art and Design department in order to make Bloktopia’s graphics stand out amongst the rest, and really give our users that quality experience when in the metaverse. Many of the assets within Bloktopia’s original design had a high tri-count (number of simple triangles used to draw the selected object or the scene). Whilst these add a large amount of detail to assets when looking at a still image or a simple MP4, they can cause challenges when viewing in game for the user, reducing the quality of the virtual experience.As a result, we’ve been undergoing optimisation on a range of assets, reworking them to be suitable for interactive purposes. Assets for this purpose require a much smaller tri-count budget and, whilst this can be time consuming and add to the development process, it’s an important step to take to ensure Bloktopia’s UX is the very best it can be.Below are examples of optimised assets, showing work done before and after and contextual tests. The image examples are Maya grabs (a 3D computer animation software), showing example geometry work, along with Unity screens showing the original and the optimised work side by side.<h2 id="header-1">Logo and words within Bloktopia:</h2>The Bloktopia logo featured throughout the skyscraper has had the mesh remade with efficiency and edge definition in mind. We’ve removed the redundant edge loops whilst maintaining the original design and style. This means that users can see the Bloktopia logo and wording, both in VR and Non-VR view, with the same level of high definition and without impacting the viewing experience.<img src="https://miro.medium.com/max/1400/1*QRqUgg7PeCRb59v2zVVZLA.png" />The first example of this improvement could be seen during the live AMA within the Bloktopia HQ-<img src="https://miro.medium.com/max/1400/1*mk4oKUOXrz3VnTO7BoXxhQ.png" />(The optimised Bloktopia logo featured in the Bloktopia HQ)<h2 id="header-2">Interior assets optimisation:</h2>Another example of assets being optimised is the modular furniture. The below example shows an extremely high tri-count couch (over 100k) that features within the Bloktopia HQ.Not only has this example been optimised to significantly reduce the tri-count (reduced by 98%), but has also been turned into a modular asset.
