<h2 id="header-0">HOT TOPIC: Modular Stores in Virtual Reality</h2><blockquote><em>Developer Diaries aim to give a transparent view to our community on how the build of Bloktopia is progressing. We value your loyalty and passion for our project, and we will be sharing as much information as we can about 1 specific feature — hopefully at the end of each week!.We will continue to work in an agile manner, and will be adapting and optimising our roadmap continuously. That is the nature of building a metaverse. So, some things we share here, might not ever come to fruition, but our goal will be to set clear expectations and communicate with you all about the upcoming roadmap and priorities.</em></blockquote><p>Earlier this week, we announced that we are going to release a <a href="https://medium.com/&#64;bloktopia/bloktopia-developer-diaries-1-1827868741ba" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">weekly Developer Diary update</a>, in our run up to the launch of the live Bloktopia metaverse! And true to our word, today marks our second entry.</p><h2 id="header-1">Developer Diaries: Hot topic of the week</h2><p>Developer Diaries will initially live here in Medium. We will look to include videos of our progress, as well as written narrative to help explain where we are at in the process and what our goals are. At this moment in time, that will help us to give the right level of detail, but over time we envisage that the diary updates might evolve into videos from our devs, and even live streamed updates straight out of the Bloktopia metaverse!</p><p>We are aiming for each entry into the diary, to specifically relate to one ‘Hot Topic’. This week’s ‘Hot Topic’ is Modular Stores in VR.</p><h2 id="header-2">What is ‘Modular’?</h2><p>The term ‘modular’ in reference to Unity code refers to the separation of functionalities, this looks like many different specialised scripts. Modular enables a component based building system for inside the stores. Enabling furniture, props, and functionality to be swapped at will by the tenant.</p><p>The lower levels of Bloktopia will contain around 200 virtual stores in a shopping mall type environment. Each store will have a different project, exchange, influencer or brand showcasing their content and key messages. The intention is to make the stores modular, so in the case of a virtual store, the internal and the exterior would all contain moveable parts.</p><p><img src="https://miro.medium.com/max/1400/1*Ph37_vqkWj5Q_wkwyq2SpQ.png" /></p><p>(A modular chair that the team has created in Unity)</p><p>To put that into an example, the above chair that we have created in Unity, is modular. Other examples include:</p><ul><li>Swapping the template of the store-front</li><li>Changing the billboards and posters styles and sizes on the store front</li><li>Moving store-front props</li><li>Managing the interior of the store Props, furniture and functionality</li></ul><p>The below video shows a prototype of how ‘modular’ will work with a virtual reality store.</p><react-video url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v&#61;36Vtbh6cnxE"></react-video><p></p><p>We’re currently in the prototyping stage of this feature, so the above isn’t how the end product will look. But it shows the functionality of the menu and the options which are available. This will eventually be reskinned with a full CMS system.
