<h3 id="aptos-and-sui-are-two-new-generation-blockchains-which-project-can-rise-to-become-the-market-leading-layer1-platform">Aptos and Sui are two new-generation blockchains, which project can rise to become the market leading Layer1 platform?</h3><h2 id="header-0"><strong>1. Aptos blockchain</strong></h2><p>Aptos is a layer 1 blockchain that aims to solve the reliability, scalability, and usability issues plaguing existing Layer 1. This blockchain is developed on Move, a programming language created for the previous Diem project, which is a new smart contract programming language that focuses on safety and flexibility.</p><p>Aptos can achieve more than up to 160,000 TPS thanks to its parallel execution engine (Block-STM) with low transaction fees.</p><h2 id="header-1">2. Sui blockchain</h2><p>Sui is a new-generation blockchain project with the advantages of scalability and low latency. This is achieved by processing transactions in parallel, which makes more efficient use of resources and allows for scalability of throughput.</p><p>Sui is built on the Move programming language. Move was originally created by Facebook to develop the Diem project. However, this project was later abandoned.</p><h2 id="header-2"><strong>3. Comparison of Sui and Aptos</strong></h2><h3 id="a-programming-language">a. Programming Language</h3><p>Both Aptos and Sui use the Move programming language used from the Diem project. Move is Solana&#39;s Rust-based programming language, Move&#39;s outstanding advantage is focused on memory safety, can provide transparency for immutable values and prevents memory data leaks.</p><p>Move was developed by the Diem team in 2019 - 2020, at that time NFT had not become popular, this new programming language was not optimized for NFT or GameFi genres. Formed in late 2021 early 2022, Sui has improved and added a bit, creating his own version of Sui Move.</p><p>This mechanism is called Object-centric model, Sui Move divides property types into object of which there are 3 main types:</p><p>Owned object: Owned by a specific owner and can only be modified by that owner.</p><p>Shared object: Mutable, has no specific owner and can be included in the transaction of different parties without any permission.</p><p>Read-only object: Has no exclusive owner, cannot be changed by anyone after being published, and can be used in transactions by all users.</p><p>The division of assets into many types helps Sui to optimize processing speed, transaction time for NFTs, game items, etc. This is in line with the mainstream NFT/Game development orientation on Sui.</p><h3 id="b-architecture">b. Architecture</h3><p>Both Aptos and Sui use a Proof of Stake consensus mechanism with validators staking native tokens and running the network. However, the two projects have different consensus algorithms behind.</p><p>Aptos uses BlockSTM technology and the Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) consensus protocol.</p><p>Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) Consensus Protocol: Analyzes on-chain states and automatically updates validators to adjust validators that do not meet conditions without human intervention, only maintaining network decentralization… The BFT system can continue to function even if some nodes fail.</p><p>BlockSTM: lIs a consensus mechanism evolved from Hotstuff, a parallel transaction execution engine for smart contracts, which in turn can increase throughput for Aptos.</p><p>Sui uses Narhal &amp; Tusk consensus algorithm, using DAG-based (directed acyclic graph) mempool to separate data transmission from transaction consensus, parallel transaction processing. The asynchronous protocol means it can withstand denial of service (DoS) attacks.</p><p>The parallel naming of the consensus mechanism also reveals two different tasks:</p><p>Narwhal: Ensuring data availability when submitted leads to consensus.</p><p>Tusk: Specifies a specific order of data.</p><p>This is done in a layered 2-module model, so Narwhal can also be used in conjunction with other external cryptocurrencies like HotStuff, BFT or Tendermint… Narwhal has also been used by other blockchains such as: Celo, Sommelier.</p><p>→ In terms of technology, Sui is considered a bit better by the community due to having a more optimal programming language and a somewhat more secure consensus mechanism. Both projects scale to parallel transaction processing, maximizing network capacity.</p><p>The whole project can also perform 120,000 - 130,000 TPS under test conditions, but for an accurate assessment, it is necessary to wait until the stage of actual use.</p><h3 id="c-tokenomics">c. Tokenomics</h3><h3 id="aptos">Aptos</h3><p>APT is the native token of Aptos, with an initial supply of 1 billion tokens. According to Aptos Labs, 82% of the initial supply is currently staked for Proof of Staking (PoS) participation across all categories below:</p><ul><li>51.02% will be distributed to the community (10-year vesting period)</li><li>19.00% will be distributed to core contributors (4-year vesting period)</li><li>16.50% will be distributed to the Aptos Foundation (10-year vesting period)</li><li>13.48% will be distributed to the project’s investors (4-year vesting period)</li></ul><h3 id="sui">Sui</h3><p>SUI is the native coin of Sui.</p><p>Gas fees: all network operations on the platform require gas fees. Gas fees are rewarded to those who participate in the Proof of Stake mechanism. It can also be used to prevent spam and denial of service attacks.</p><p>Storage Fund: In order to pay future validators to bear on-chain data storage costs, Sui&#39;s storage is used to distribute stake rewards to validators over time.</p><p>Proof-of-stake Mechanism: Used to select, incentivize and reward platform operators, also known as validators and delegators.</p><p>On-chain voting: To vote on decisions on governance and protocol upgrades.</p><h3 id="d-funding">d. Funding</h3><h3 id="aptos">Aptos</h3><p>Aptos has made a big splash when it comes to raising capital from big investors right in the gloomy market period. Up to now, Aptos has completed 2 rounds of Seed Round and Series A funding with a total amount of 350 million USD.</p><h3 id="sui">Sui</h3><p>After raising $36 million from Series A. Mysten Labs, the company behind Sui closed a $300 million fundraising round in its latest Series B funding round. This gives Sui a total raised of $360 million to date, Sui is currently valued at over $2 billion.</p><h2 id="header-3"><strong>4. Conclusion</strong></h2><p>In general, these are two projects that are noticed by the community with new technology and huge capital. Both have their own unique technological highlights. However, it is too early to predict which projects have more potential. In terms of ecosystem overview, Aptos proved to be superior to Sui when it successfully launched the mainnet, overwhelming in the number of projects and the completeness of the overall picture. This shows that Aptos is getting more attention from the community, a larger ecosystem will attract more users and increase competition in the ecosystem.
