It is a groundbreaking technology that offers a runtime for decentralized applications built with mainstream software.</p><h4>The Microarchitecture</h4><ul><li>The microarchitecture initial implementation was released with the new Machine Emulator SDK v0.13.0.</li></ul><h4>Self-Hosted Distributions</h4><ul><li>Experimentation with Gentoo self-hosted distribution and Alpine Linux were temporarily paused for our team to concentrate all energy on Cartesi Rollups and the microarchitecture work fronts.</li></ul><h4>Infrastructure for Rollups</h4><p>Here comes a list of improvements in our Machine emulator and its components to support Cartesi Rollups progress:</p><ul><li>Released Machine Emulator SDK v0.13.0.</li><li>RISC-V Hypervisor and compressed instruction extensions well under way.</li><li>Floating-point extensions merged and released.</li><li>TLB state now appears in the Merkle tree.</li><li>Optimized TLB implementation nearly doubles emulator performance.</li><li>Updated the Linux Kernel (5.15.63 latest LTS version).</li><li>Added support for debugging kernel-space code inside the emulator using GDB.</li><li>Improved log support on server-manager and remote-cartesi-machine.</li></ul><p><img src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/0*TDDJgdMdZrWIOh-8" />GDB in action debugging kernel-space code inside our RISC-V emulator</p><h3 id="cartesi-rollups">Cartesi Rollups</h3><p><strong>Cartesi Rollups </strong>is<strong> </strong>Cartesi’s optimistic rollup layer-2 system relying on the Cartesi Machine to allow developers to create scalable decentralized applications with mainstream software components. It consists of on-chain and off-chain components that allow the blockchain to provide data availability, order input data, bridge tokens between layer-1 and layer-2, and serve as a referee in case of disputes.</p><h4>Road to Mainnet</h4><p><a href="https://medium.com/cartesi/hello-cartesi-rollups-0-8-0-e13c21fe23ce" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Cartesi Rollups 0.8.0 is live!</a> Here’s a list of what this release entails:</p><ul><li>Cartesi’s Deployment System and Execution Infrastructure was successfully tested with <a href="https://www.optimism.io/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Optimism</a> and <a href="https://arbitrum.io/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Arbitrum</a> using the Echo Python example.</li><li>Support for non <a href="https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs/blob/master/EIPS/eip-1559.md" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">EIP-1559</a> transactions, which is the type of transaction that some chains like Optimism currently supports.</li><li>Lower latencies for Cartesi Rollups DApps when deployed on Optimism and/or Arbitrum.</li><li>Configurable log levels for all Cartesi Rollups components, and a much cleaner log output using the default configuration.</li><li>Better error handling during the DApp’s machine build process.</li><li>The emulator also brings TLB optimizations and Floating point support which will result in better performance for computation inside the Cartesi Machine.</li><li>The new release also brings important internal enhancements.</li></ul><h4>DApp Validator Nodes</h4><ul><li>Our Deployment System and cloud-based Execution Infrastructure is currently in continuous improvement stage, which means that the basic features are done and new features and/or fixes will come according usage. For more information, please <a href="https://github.com/cartesi/rollups-deployment" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">click here</a>.</li><li>Currently we have 20 Cartesi Rollups DApps running in our Execution Infrastructure and counting…</li></ul><h4>Rollups Enhancements</h4><ul><li>Two features mentioned above are the main enhancements for the Cartesi Rollups 0.8.0 release: Configurable log levels for Cartesi Rollups components and better error handling during the DApp’s machine build process. With these enhancements we expect that the development experience when creating Cartesi Rollups DApps will significantly improve. Let&#39;s have a…</em>discord.com</a></p><h4>Support for Computational Oracles</h4><p>Zippie’s dev team got a <a href="https://cartesi.io/en/labs" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Cartesi Foundation Grant</a> to work on Cartesi’s computational oracle solution (named Cartesi Compute). As reported by Zippie, grant work continues to progress.</p><p>Milestone 1, is in review stage:</p><ul><li>Renaming of Descartes to Cartesi Compute in source code and interfaces done</li><li>Upgraded Cartesi Compute to use a Cartesi Machine from 2022</li><li>Implemented Precomputed hashing of pristine pages (empty pages), which makes hashing much faster for bigger machines</li><li>Testing in progress with Zippie’s own stack &#43; fixes related to this</li></ul><p>Work has started on Milestone 2 already, which includes:</p><ul><li>Tests on verification game; which involved creating a machine manager that could act in a defective manner to force a verification game to happen</li><li>Tests of all existing documentation samples &#43; changing documentation to fit 2022 sources and renames</li><li>Functionality to disallow Logger upload of data (smart contract guarantees the data is available)</li><li>Functionality to add an admin key to Cartesi Compute to allow staged Mainnet deployment</li></ul><h4>Arbitration for Rollups</h4><ul><li>We will temporarily pause this work front to concentrate our efforts on the work on the Road to Mainnet.</li></ul><h4>Automatic Voucher Execution Incentivized by CTSI</h4><p>⚠ It is important to mention that this feature depends on the scheduler component.</p><ul><li>See status update for the Scheduler activity.</li></ul><h4>Transaction Sequencer Incentivized by CTSI</h4><p>⚠ It is important to mention that this feature depends on the scheduler component.</p><ul><li>See status update for the Scheduler activity.</li></ul><h3 id="noether">Noether</h3><p><strong>Noether </strong>is Cartesi’s side chain for data availability. It is the part of Cartesi’s solution that will enable blockchain applications to use much more data than would be possible with Ethereum or other base layers.</p><h4>Noether Version 2.0: Upgrade from PoS to PoS 2.0</h4><ul><li>We achieved 75% of work done with the first release of Noether 2.0, which supports mining on both V1.1 and V2.</li></ul><h4>The Scheduler</h4><ul><li>We temporarily paused the development on the Scheduler to concentrate our efforts on the work on PoS.</li></ul><h4>Explorer</h4><p>We achieved 75% of work done with the first release of Explorer 2.0. This release brings.</p><p>New Feature:</p><ul><li>New commission page is live. Users have visibility on changes made by pool managers to the commission through time.</li></ul><p>Enhancements:</p><ul><li>A myriad of UI updates in multiple pages and places.
