<p>In this week’s update, we will provide insight into the technology powering Cherish behind the scenes and how it works. In particular, we’ll talk about how Cherish functions as a decentralized platform as well as what this means for you as the end-user.</p><h2 id="header-0">Web3</h2><p>The growing dominance of big tech platforms has seen more and more power and influence concentrated in the hands of a select few. As user concern regarding issues like privacy, censorship and data ownership grows, many now look to Web3 as the key to a freer, fairer and better future for social media. But what is it?</p><p>Web3 is a broad term referring to what many people see as the next generation of the internet. Utilizing technologies like blockchain, it seeks to benefit all participants by using a peer-to-peer (P2P) model for websites, applications, and the internet as a whole. Sharing this vision, Cherish believes Web3 technology has the potential to completely reinvent the social media paradigm, providing Creators with a truly decentralized, unfettered and community-driven experience.</p><h2 id="header-1">Trustless</h2><p>Cherish is built on the Cherry Network, a blockchain with a focus on decentralized storage. Unlike mainstream platforms controlled by corporate entities, this allows Cherish to function without any single point of control or failure, tipping the balance of power back towards Creators.</p><p>This means that Creators have full control over the content they post and will never be censored, guaranteeing fairness and freedom of expression on the platform.</p><p>Decentralization also removes the need for information to be stored in huge databases that are prone to hacks, outages and loss of data. Instead, data is secured and validated on-chain by thousands of nodes around the world with a sturdy redundancy mechanism to ensure files are never lost. Even if some nodes fail, Cherish will continue to run un interrupted.</p><h2 id="header-2">Storage</h2><p>To store data, Cherish utilizes Cherry Storage, an IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) module designed to store and distribute large amounts of data while keeping content private and secure. Until now, similar platforms have faced issues with immutability — the inability to update or remove data once it has been recorded on-chain.</p><p>This has been solved by Cherry Storage, and through it, Creators on Cherish will be able to post, edit and delete content freely while still benefiting from the increased data protection, ownership and security that decentralized storage provides.</p><h2 id="header-3">Privacy</h2><p>The widespread use and adoption of technology has led to increased risks regarding user privacy. Data breaches and leaks have become frequent and our personal information is often mishandled, misused and even sold to third parties for profit.</p><p>Cherish provides users with full control and ownership over their content and personal data.
