Crypto options and futures exchange Deribit has been compromised, with $28 million stolen from its hot wallet. Client assets were not affected, according to the company, but withdrawals have been temporarily halted as the exchange conducts security checks.<h2 id="header-0">This year, some of the most prominent cryptocurrency exchanges have been targeted by crypto hackers. Recently, one such hack was experienced by the cryptocurrency exchange Deribit.</h2>The hackers broke into the Deribit cryptocurrency exchange&#39;s <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-dictionary/hot-wallet" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hot wallet</a> and stole USD 28 million. The current hack has compromised the crypto exchange&#39;s BTC, ETH, and USDC hot wallets. However, the crypto exchange has stated that the losses will be compensated by its reserves.The exchange also stated that all of its clients&#39; assets are secure and that no <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-blogs-english/what-are-cold-wallets-and-how-do-they-function" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">cold wallet</a> addresses have been compromised. Deribit&#39;s policies require it to keep 99% of its funds in cold storage to protect its users from such occurrences.Deribit Deposits &amp; WithdrawalsDeribit, a cryptocurrency exchange, has also evaluated how it currently handles deposits and withdrawals on the platform. The crypto exchange is currently undertaking continuous security checks in order to halt withdrawals for users, including third-party custodians.The exchange stated that withdrawals will be permitted only until they are certain of restoring control. Deposits have already been forwarded for processing. These deposits will be credited to the user accounts after the required number of confirmations.“We temporarily increased the minimum number of confirmations, which has resulted in a delay in crediting funds. We request that you refrain from sending fresh deposits until we reopen wallets,” stated Deribit.Deribit further stated that its insurance fund is completely secure and that the company will reimburse any losses.
