<h2 id="header-0">What is a Tardigrade? </h2>Tardigrades are some of the smallest known animals on the planet! They are very unique in many ways but one of their favorite things to do is eat! Mostly grubbing on Plants, Bacteria, and other small organisms, Tardigrades are always swimming around looking for the next bite to have! Another food item they like to indulge in is themselves. Yes, you heard correct! Tardigrades are carnivores &amp; cannibals snacking on their own kind once in a while. Although food is a big part of the lives of a Tardigrade, they also have a bigger meaning yet to be discovered. We believe at TRDG that eventually a Tardigrades amazing abilities and qualities could be used in the medical field helping the future regrowth of cells in our own bodies. When a Tardigrade ends up realizing it&#39;s own body is in a threatened environment they can enter a state of Cryptobiosis which is a response for desiccation, freezing, and oxygen deficiency. They can slow down their metabolism and become an even tougher organism if a period of extra stress is upon their body. Sometimes this can be from high heats or freezing temperatures. The Tardigrade has this amazing protective ability that preserves the functions of their body so that when the time is right they can come back to action with no harm done. If we can harness the power of this genuine ability, humans could protect themselves from certain viruses or other deadly attacks to our body by slowing down our metabolic state. This could also help in the future with designated space travel and shrinking the amount of time our bodies react to certain kinds of radiation or exposure to deep space temperatures. This would be key in finding a way for humans to progressively start to search for life on other planets. Tardigrades have been around since the beginning of time but they are still just scratching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the outstanding qualities they hold. In 1773 Johann August Ephraim Goeze who was a German zoologist ended up naming them &#34;Kleiner Wasserbär&#34; which means &#34;Little Water Bear&#34;. Later around 1777 an Italian biologist by the name of Lazzaro Spallanzani gave them the name &#34;Tardigrada&#34;. Tardigrades are thought to be associated with the animals from the Cretaceous period which was around 66 to 145 million years ago. Their closest relatives they diverged from was possibly in the Cambrian period which was over 500 million years ago. Whatever amount of time they have been here on this planet they are quite possibly the most resilient animals ever to exist! <h3 id="tardigrades-are-the-strongest-living-creatures-in-the-universe">Tardigrades are the strongest living creatures in the Universe! </h3><img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/c688e27b03ca4b79a02e3b3e6e70d3c8.jpg" />The biggest a Tardigrades body can grow to measures out a length of 1.5 mm (0.059 inches). This is extremely small and you would need a very high-powered Microscope to see them possibly at 100x magnification or 400x for a better view! Some Tardigrades when they are newly hatched from eggs are smaller than 0.05 mm! The Tardigrade species totals over a whopping 1,300 different types in the phylum Tardigrada. If you were looking to see them for yourself the best places to look would be in mosses and lichens. It is believed that someday if the race of humans was to disappear, Tardigrades would still walk the planet regardless of any event geared to extinction. That is why they are the most amazing animals to ever live! TRDGtoken is determined to keep building a strong foundation and community with Tardigrades at the center.
