<p>The concept of Metaverse has been receiving growing public attention over the recent years, and more than often it appears hand in hand with the term Web3. Sometimes we even hear these terms used interchangeably.</p><p>But are they referring to the same matter? Is there any difference between them? Should you ever feel like watching the movie Ready Player One, you can have a better clue about it immediately.</p><p>Thirty years after its first appearance in Neal Stephenson’s science fiction novel Snow Crash, Metaverse is yet to be fully realized. However, you can already have a taste of what it could be like through video games like Minecraft, in which virtual economies and in-game events flourish in a 3D world. And with more enterprises such as Meta joining the cause, we are surely getting there bit by bit.</p><h2 id="header-1">What is Web3?</h2><p>Web3 or Web 3.0, as we can easily tell from its name, is the third iteration of the World Wide Web. Unlike its predecessors the read-only Web1 and the user-generated Web2, Web3 is endowed with evolved features of decentralization, user ownership, and privacy.</p><p>The blockchain-based Web3 is a decentralized version of the Internet, essentially different from the centralized Web2. Blockchain technology allows data to be stored and transferred securely and transparently and free from tampering or centralized dominance. Based on this, Web3 makes it possible for users to completely own their data and go on further with data exchange anonymously.</p><h2 id="header-2">Where Metaverse and Web3 Diverge and Overlap</h2><h3 id="major-difference">Major difference</h3><p>From the above basics about Metaverse and Web3, you might have sensed a difference. When envisioning the future Metaverse, we are expecting a virtual immersive world where people get to spend time engaging in all kinds of daily activities from an applicational point of view. In contrast, being much related to blockchain, Web3 is on a more technical level which incorporates the underlying infrastructures of Metaverse.</p><h3 id="shared-ground">Shared ground</h3><p>Despite the difference, Metaverse and Web3 indeed cross over in significant ways. The construction of Web3 is supported by the technology of blockchain and the blockchain-based cryptocurrencies, which are also key contributors to the functional running of Metaverse in terms of living the digital life through working or entertaining with dApps (decentralized applications) supported by blockchain infrastructures and buying and owning with digital currencies.</p><h2 id="header-3">Future Interaction</h2><p>So to speak, Web3 can provide decentralized technologies for Metaverse to build major parts of it, especially for its economic systems and diverse activities. And this can be the part where Metaverse and Web3 form in-depth interactions in the days to come.</p><h3 id="economic-system">Economic system</h3><p>As Metaverse aims to develop into a digital reality as opposed to the real world, cryptocurrencies can come right in to be the foundation of all economic activities there to meet users&#39; needs for consumption, trade,  and even large-scale commerce.</p><h3 id="dapps">dApps</h3><p>Also, Metaverse can be an ideal environment for dApps to take root and grow, as there will be enormous demand for services covering working, entertaining, socializing, financing, and more, which need to be provided or supported by functioning dApps.</p><h3 id="community-governance">Community governance</h3><p>Last but not least, Web3 can help to realize democratic community governance in Metaverse. Metaverse users will be able to form their own communities and vote for the governing rules, with everything written in the blockchain in the form of smart contracts and being autonomously executed, and ultimately exercise the power to decide how the world they live in runs.</p><p>In the ways that Metaverse and Web3 are so closely related, the two would have great potential to help each other with further completeness and perfection, and that is what we can expect and even be a part of.</p><h2 id="header-4">About Rangers Protocol</h2><p>Rangers Protocol is a Metaverse blockchain infrastructure.
