Mark Zuckerberg announced that Instagram users might soon be able to mint nonfungible tokens, or NFTs, on the social media platform.
He also reportedly mentioned that he hopes avatar clothing in the metaverse could be minted as NFTs. This is already a common occurrence in the blockchain gaming industry.
In January, the Financial Times reported that Meta had discussed launching an NFT marketplace, but that all talks were in very early stages.

On Monday the European Parliament voted to advance a regulatory proposal on crypto, without passing a ban on proof-of-work-based cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

Bitcoin jumped as much as 5.7% to $41,691 on Wednesday before giving up all the gains and trading at $39,540.
Other tokens like Ether and Solana also enjoyed brief spikes. Edul Patel, the co-founder of automated digital trading platform Mudrex, attributed the short-lived gain to retail investors speculating on a smaller-than anticipated rate hike by the Federal Reserve.

Institutional investors focused on the long-term seem unaffected by Bitcoin’s bearish price action.
Data from Glassnode show that a total of 31,130 bitcoin left Coinbase last week, the highest single-week outflow since 2017.
"If we look at the Illiquid Supply Shock Ratio (ISSR), we can see a significant uptick this week, suggesting that these withdrawn coins have been moved into a wallet with little-to-no history of spending," Glassnode said.
