In&nbsp;the past year or so, it seemed like everyone in the internet space was talking about Web 3.0, as if they, as ordinary people being interconnected through the internet, were eager to retake their digital identities and related digital rights back from the greedy capitals and tech giants. It was good, however, to see that builders and people of insight in the tech space are much calmer compared to the noisiness in public opinion. Since the past few decades, the technical obstacles that shackled ordinary internet users to the mere role of capital instruments have not been eliminated. We cannot count on the capitals’ and internet giants’ mercy to give up their core interests, nor can we expect the shackles to loosen by themselves. We can only self-act, self-organize, and use technology the fairest “weapon” to regain our own rights and interests.Let’s first look back on the current state of the internet. Since the beginning of internet and up to now, not one individual has a complete “personality”. To use a more neutral term – we do not have a complete “internet identity”. On Software A one is User ID 12345, on another Software B that runs by another internet giant that same person is User ID 54321. My identity does not belong to me. The internet “me” is&nbsp;just User B for Company A and User D for Company C. In the real world, there is only one “me”. I have an identity card and an ID number to verify my identity and the rights. In the virtual world, however, there is not a consistent and complete individual identity. The “I” in the virtual world seems always to be attached with, and only exist in, certain tech products. This is the reason we’d always be in a disadvantageous position when competing with the tech giants our broad-sense digital assets and digital rights – my digital assets do not belong to me. The 10 years’ worth of social relationships accumulated with Social Platform A are not transferable to Social Platform B should A be replaced by B, because the social connections I built on Platform A belong to Platform A, and I am only an ID in Platform A’s database. The digital images, text or audio records that I keep in a cloud database, if the server was no longer maintained, may never be found again. The account number and password used to extract these digital assets are also stored in a server owned by a centralized enterprise. My account can be banned, and my assets can be snooped and taken by "authorities". I may not even get notified, authorities just need to contact those centralized companies running the database.Digital wallets cannot perfectly solve the identity problem. You may want people to know you own a Bored Ape number ###, but you don’t necessary want information like how many ETH were transferred to the exchange or how many BTC were gifted to be made public. What’s more, in the virtual world, there are far more digital rights that cannot be verified and recorded through ownership in a wallet. For example, you may not own a Web 3 application, but you many have contributed some important codes to it on GitHub. This should be able to get recorded independently and tied to your digital identity. A wealthy person can buy a building full of technological creativity in Sandbox, but you as the designer and builder of this building should also be independently recorded and tied to your digital identity. In fact, when we have a digital identity, the number of digital rights that can be recorded and verified will increase exponentially, thus reconstruct our entire digital ecology.This is the massive value of Soul Bounding. In the physical world, when you join a tennis club as a new customer, records of your education will not disappear, your social connections will not need to be rebuilt, the branded clothes you wear will still be there, your toned muscles will not change their shapes when you cross a certain gate and threshold. We can roam across different communities, places, organizations, or even countries, without worrying we need to “grind” from the start. In the digital world, we finally are getting close to being able to travel across the digital metaverse using one identity. This of course is not how a lot of people imagined, needs to sacrifice your privacy and surrender to organizations like CBDC by using your real ID in the physical world. You will, instead, have a Digital Soul – your Ghost or Ghosts out of the shell. We&nbsp;call it Soul Bounded Distributed ID, or SBDID.Before now, discussions around the DID technology, in a traditional sense, focus mostly on distribution – how to realize distributed generation, and how to realize distributed storage, etc. These technologies no doubt are important, FaceDAO will also collaborate with various blockchain project teams to advance the development of related tech. But in FaceDAO’s mission, a more focused area would be how to establish Soul Bounded digital identities for the public. Admittedly, existing technologies can yet solve such challenges perfectly. To establish a qualified “soul” and “bounding” it with people in the physical world in a suitable way required persistent and continuous technological exploration and iteration. Because of its complexity and the need for extra caution in relation to personal rights, no one can launch a complete solution at the outset.<h2 id="header-0">FaceDAO Protocol: A Revolutionary Practical DID Technology Solution</h2>Based on existing technologies and resources, FaceDAO has proposed a set of Soul-Bound DID technical solutions that can quickly be adapted to the practical stage and can be improved through progressive iteration:Firstly: build harsh core quickly.&nbsp;ID ownerships needs to maintain certain associations with the physical world. These associations need to established through identifiable parameters. Biometrics is by far a relatively mature and reliable source as identifiable parameters. Among them, facial biometric identification is currently the most cost effective and most popular biometric identification method. So we plan to build the first-generation SBDID using facial biometrics. First of all, we can realize facial sampling through the intelligent terminal, and the facial samples will collect many corresponding feature recognition point parameters, which can be as many as dozens or even hundreds of points. In order to ensure privacy, the face images obtained through sampling will not be used as the key data of DID. We extract the above feature identification parameters, encrypt them, and eventually process them into hash values. Users hold and possess their own base&nbsp;digital identity by holding the above-mentioned hash value. It is also impossible to restore the hash value to a real image. The irreversibility of this data maximizes the privacy and security of users.Secondly: add various additional data to the base identities.&nbsp;Your social graph, the song you recorded, the PFP of a NFT that you own, the “like” you hit for a post, your browsing history for some products… These digital behavioral records and digital rights can all be mounted onto your base digital identity, that is, your “soul”. These data are not necessarily public. You can choose who can have access, and how to access. Correspondingly, you can prove and claim your ownership or creative rights to a certain passage, a song, or a digital picture. You can also charge royalties from whose who try to access and analyze your digital footprint and profit from it, or simplify ban them from browsing your digital records.This of course will involve complex technical development. Things like how to auto-generate and mount data; how to categorize and manage your complex digital graphs and digital records; how&nbsp;to balance authenticity and privacy protection using blockchain; which records can be transferred and which cannot; how to decouple and transfer those digital assets that need and can be transferred; how to prevent the digital identities and related info from being stolen; and how can we use biometric information to proactively retrieve data.Aside from vigorous development efforts carried out by the FaceDAO development team, the FaceDAO project will gradually open source related codes and APIs, and open the FaceDAO protocol to the entire Web 3.0 community. This will enable everyone interested to contribute toward this revolutionary technology, to build a more complete digital ecology, and be a part maintaining it. This is how individual digital rights can truly be protected.Thirdly, break down digital identity walls.&nbsp;As a by-product of the highly advanced web 1.0 and web 2.0 eras built by centralized enterprises, heavy, divisive “digital walls” are imposed in between digital communities and products. We should realize by now that these walls will exist for the long term, and what we need to do is to have our digital identities break the walls or pass through them. To get to this, we cannot rely only on technologies, but rather rely on every single person who recognizes this concept, and promotes it jointly. FaceDAO will become a core driving force in the early stage of the movement. We will seek out those who recognize and accept the web 3.0 rationale, those who regard their users as their equals rather than profit-making tools, and collaborate with them. Gradually we will convince more projects and enterprises to join this technical movement and reignite the technological creativity of our society by opening up the digital ecology. We will eventually save ourselves from the technological bottlenecks, financial incapacity and social difficulties of the physical world.The world needs someone to stand up and do something. To date, in the nascent blockchain world, we have only realized the distributed ledger of contracts and the distributed storage of some data. With the blessing of modern AI technology, in many countries, we have already been using face scanning to check in at work, ride on trains and other public transportations, and make payments. It may not be perfect, but as mentioned above, face scanning is currently a relatively economical and secure digital identity verification solution. The DID system based on face recognition parameters + password + private key (or mnemonic) already meet the needs of digital identity applications in most cases. Of course, based on different cases where the levels of our attentions to the digital identity security and affordability differ, we can also introduce a variety of biometric measures such as fingerprints, palmprints, voiceprints, and retinas in the future. But in any case, the core of the system will be human biometrics. FaceDAO's DID protocol is constructed based on such a technical idea. We firmly believe that such DID will help us achieve true Soul-bound and become the most important infrastructure in the era of Web 3.0.<h2 id="header-1">Use&nbsp;Scenarios for FaceDID</h2>In the Social field, a person F in the physical world can have an Avatar (Faceman) in the digital world to carry his independent digital identity, and F's social graph in the digital world will be recorded and mounted in a distributed form on his/her Avatar. We can use an NFT to represent our Avatar identity to travel through various social platforms, whether it be in text, pictures, audio or video. Our behavioral data, social graph, various feature parameters, etc. will be put into a virtual data pool and stored on the blockchain in a distributed manner, and this Faceman's NFT will be the key to decrypt and unlock his/her virtual data pool. In this way, we have built a distributed feature parameter storage mechanism that is both exclusive to a specific individual and also is readable and writable.It will be "edited" because our social graph is constantly being updated, and our behavioral data and feature data are also constantly being changed and recorded. We may write a certain paragraph today, create an artwork tomorrow, and record a new song the day after tomorrow. All these important works and time points should be able to be updated and recorded. They will build our internet memories and even our digital personalities. They are the cells of the "Soul", its blood, bones, muscles, and neurons. This is not like the early feature NFT technologies like Loot represent, which determines your character at a single point of time.
