How to Add Moonriver to MetaMask

目录

Moonriver is an Ethereum-compatible, smart contract parachain on the Kusama network, built using Substrate and almost the same codebase by the same team behind Polkadot. It was intended to be an experimental blockchain platform designed to provide an interoperable and scalable framework for developers.

Moonriver has been created to provide Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) implementation, allowing smart contracts that are based on Ethereum to be migrated into the Kusama environment. This allows Ethereum-based decentralized applications (DAPps) to be redeployed on Moonriver.
Moonriver is a “sister” network to Moonbeam on Polkadot, acting as a permanently incentivized canary network. This means that code is shipped on Moonriver first and tested under real economic conditions, and once proven, it will be shipped on Moonbeam. The network currently has a total value locked (TVL) of $67M, at the time of writing.

In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know to integrate the Moonriver parachain to your MetaMask wallet. Let’s dive in.

Setting Up MetaMask

You’ll first need to set-up your MetaMask wallet and add it as an extension on your web browser such as Google Chrome or Brave.

To do that, you can download the wallet from the official website. Then set up your MetaMask wallet if you are a new user, or import your existing wallet if you already have one.

If you are a regular user of MetaMask wallet, you can pin its extension to your browser’s top-right corner. To do so on chrome, simply click the “Puzzle” button and then click the “pin” button.

Adding New Networks to MetaMask

To add a new network to your MetaMask wallet, you will need to open the Expanded View on it. To do that, simply click the three dots and select “Expand view”.

You will find yourself on a new screen, like the one below.

To add a new network to your wallet, you will need to click the circle button and select “Settings.”

On the left side of your screen, you will notice the “Networks” tab.

Select that and a new screen will open up, as seen below. From here, you can simply add all the required details to get connected with the network.

Adding Moonriver Mainnet to MetaMask

To add a new network to your MetaMask wallet, you will need network details such as RPC URL, Chain ID and more.

You can easily find this information online, however it is highly recommended to retrieve information only from official sources. For Moonriver, that info can be found here.

The following information is what you need to add Moonriver to your MetaMask.

Network Name: Moonriver
New RPC URL: https://rpc.api.moonriver.moonbeam.network
ChainID: 1285
Symbol (Optional): MOVR
Block Explorer (Optional): https://moonriver.moonscan.io/
