After nearly five years of waiting,&nbsp;<a href="https://bsc.news/post/what-is-pi-network-cryptocurrency-mobile-mining-guide" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Pi Network</a> users finally have something big to celebrate. The popular mobile&nbsp;<a href="https://bsc.news/post/what-is-cryptocurrency-mining-explained-complete-guide" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">mining</a> project has&nbsp;<a href="https://minepi.com/blog/open-network/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">officially launched</a> its Open Network stage today, February 20th, 2025. This major update also brings the first-ever true&nbsp;<a href="https://bsc.news/post/pi-coin-exchange-listings-okx-mexc-bitget-launch-date-analysis" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">exchange listings</a> for the PI token.<h2 id="span-span-strong-pi-s-open-network-what-it-means-strong-span-span">Pi's Open Network: What it Means</h2>The Open Network launch marks a huge change for Pi Network. Before today, the network was closed off from the outside world by a firewall. Both&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/okx/status/1892484606735122457" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">OKX</a> and&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/bitgetglobal/status/1892484333199642947" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitget</a>, two well-known trading platforms, have announced that users can now buy and sell PI tokens through social media posts.<figure class="image"><img src="https://storage.bsc.news/5/Screenshot_2025_02_20_at_09_44_29_f32ee24c38.webp" alt="OKX announces its listing of Pi Network" width="undefined" height="undefined"><figcaption> OKX announces that the PI token is live for trading </figcaption></figure>More exchanges might list PI in the future, however. The Pi community is especially excited about a&nbsp;<a href="https://bsc.news/post/pi-network-binance-listing-vote-2025-exchange-updates" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">possible listing</a> on Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, at some point in time. Binance is currently running a community vote about listing PI, which ends on February 27th. That said, even a successful vote cannot guarantee a Binance listing.<h2 id="span-span-strong-approved-partners-announced-strong-span-span">Approved Partners Announced</h2>Pi Network is seemingly being careful about which businesses can work with their system. They have released a&nbsp;<a href="https://minepi.com/kyb-list/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">short list</a> of approved companies that have passed their security checks (KYB). Right now, only three companies are on this list, all of which are exchanges:<ul><li>OKX</li><li>Bitget</li><li>Gate.io</li></ul>All these companies are cryptocurrency exchanges which is strange as you would expect this to include a list of more interesting applications and utility platforms. Now that the security walls are down, anyone can technically add nodes to the main Pi blockchain.Pi Network will slowly invite people to move their test nodes to the main network. According to the release, they will choose people based on:<ul><li>How much they have helped the network in the past</li><li>How reliable their nodes have been</li><li>Their node ranking scores</li></ul><h2 id="span-span-strong-what-s-next-for-pi-network-strong-span-span">What's Next for Pi Network?</h2>Pi Network isn't stopping with the Open Network launch, or so it seems. They have announced plans for a new challenge that will help Pioneers learn about and explore the expanded network. However, they haven't shared the exact details of this challenge yet.
