Qtum Transactions Per SecondQtum consists of 2 layers, the first being the native blockchain and the 2nd being our implementation of Lightning Network. The base layer is completely decentralized, as in anyone can simply download and operate a Qtum node and verify transactions. There is no need to own coins or vote for a delegator because that is centralization. So long as the native blockchain is truly decentralized and acts as the settlement layer, it’s fine to have some form of centralization on the second layer.Qtum’s layer 1 network is theoretically capable of 1000-1100 TPS. This is achieved by utilizing a 32 second block target, 8000 kilobyte blocks, and Segregated Witness. If the base layer begins to get expensive, the price of gas can be adjusted by the community using a set of smart contracts we call the “Decentralized Governance Protocol”. This is all done on a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism.If a developer is looking for microtransactions that need to be faster than 32 seconds, or they don’t want to pay 3-4 pennies in gas, they can opt to use Lightning Network. Because Qtum’s layer 1 network is a clone of Bitcoin, we get to make use of trusted applications like Lightning and all of the other upstream development work like Taproot and P2SH, etc. It’s a great combination because we don’t have to re-develop software every time we want similar functionality to Bitcoin, and we make use of the Ethereum Virtual Machine as our smart contract layer.
