Ohio House Approves Tax-Free #Crypto Payments Under $200

Ohio lawmakers have passed House Bill 116 with a 70-26 vote, exempting crypto transactions below $200 from capital gains taxes.

The $200 threshold would increase annually with inflation, rounded up to the nearest $5.

The Ohio #Blockchain Basics Act now heads to the state Senate before reaching Governor Mike DeWine's desk.

The bill passed the Technology and Innovation Committee with unanimous 13-0 bipartisan support.

#Crypto mining would be permitted in residential areas provided operators comply with local noise ordinances.

Mining businesses that meet regulations could operate in any industrially zoned area statewide.

The legislation prohibits discriminatory enforcement against $BTC mining operations compared to similar businesses.

No money transmitter licenses would be required for #mining, staking, node operation, or crypto-to-crypto #swaps.

The bill protects Ohioans' right to use hardware or self-hosted wallets for cryptocurrency custody.
