#ElSalvador Adds 240
$BTC Despite IMF Non-Accumulation Agreement
El Salvador has continued purchasing Bitcoin daily, adding 240
$BTC since December 2024 despite IMF loan conditions discouraging further accumulation.
The country's treasury wallet now holds 6,209
$BTC following its one-BTC-per-day strategy introduced by President Nayib Bukele in 2022.
In December, El Salvador secured a $1.4 billion IMF loan requiring the government to drop Bitcoin's legal tender status and halt public BTC accumulation.
IMF Western Hemisphere Director Rodrigo Valdes confirmed El Salvador remains technically compliant with the #Bitcoin non-accumulation commitment.
Blockchain adviser Anndy Lian suggests the "flexible interpretation" allows purchases through non-public sector entities while maintaining technical compliance.
Meanwhile, cryptocurrency remittances to El Salvador fell 44.5% in Q1 2025, dropping to $16 million from $28.3 million in Q1 2024.
This represents a decline from 1.08% to 0.52% of total #remittances received in the country.
