#Brazil Scraps Crypto Tax Exemption With New 17.5% Rate

#Brazil has eliminated its crypto tax exemption for small traders, implementing a flat 17.5% rate on all digital asset gains.

The new rule under Provisional Measure 1303 removes the previous 35,000 Brazilian reais ($6,300) monthly exemption threshold.

All crypto transactions now face the uniform rate regardless of trade size, affecting both retail and institutional investors.

The #taxation overhaul extends to self-custody wallets and offshore #crypto holdings for the first time.

High-volume traders previously paying up to 22.5% will see reduced rates, while small investors face increased burdens.

Quarterly tax assessments allow investors to offset losses from the previous five quarters until 2026.

Brazilian lawmakers are separately considering allowing employers to pay up to 50% of salaries in $BTC and other cryptocurrencies.
