#Anti-Deepfake Law Takes Effect as #Trump Signs Bipartisan Protection Act
President Trump signed the #TakeItDownAct, making non-consensual intimate images and #deepfake pornography a federal crime with immediate effect.
The #bipartisan legislation compels tech platforms to remove flagged content within 48 hours and establish clear takedown processes for both authentic and AI-generated explicit imagery.
First Lady Melania Trump, who joined the signing ceremony, called the law a "powerful step forward" to protect Americans from image abuse, noting that "AI and social media are the digital candy of the next generation."
The law protects adults from harmful non-consensual image publication and provides special protections for minors against content intended to abuse, harass, or gratify sexual desire.
The legislation received near-unanimous congressional support with a 409-2 House vote and unanimous Senate consent following high-profile deepfake incidents involving celebrities and underage victims.
