#Ethereum Proposal Aims To Cut Node Storage From 1.3TB Requirement

#VitalikButerin unveiled a local-first design to reduce barriers for average users running network nodes. The new approach would eliminate the need for full blockchain storage on individual nodes, making the operation more accessible.

Current #Ethereum nodes require over 1.3 terabytes of data storage capacity, creating impractical overhead costs.

The proposed system lets nodes track only relevant user data while verifying other information on demand when needed.

The design aligns with #Pectra upgrade goals for lightweight consumer device compatibility on regular hardware. Historical data older than 36 days would be distributed across multiple network nodes for shared storage management.

This local-first model focuses on user-specific information instead of global state tracking for the entire network.

The initiative aims to reduce centralization risks from dominant provider #Ethereum dependence and potential censorship threats.
