$XRP Settles #SEC Lawsuit for Just $50M as Regulatory Era Shifts
#Ripple will pay only $50 million to settle the SEC's long-running lawsuit, far below the initial $1.3 billion claim.
The settlement agreement was officially filed on Thursday, requiring Judge Analisa Torres' final approval.
$XRP responded positively to the news, rising 8% to $2.30 and maintaining its position as the fourth-largest cryptocurrency.
The SEC will retain $50 million from the original $125 million fine ordered last year, with the remaining $75 million returning to Ripple.
This resolution follows Judge Torres's 2023 ruling that programmatic sales of
$XRP to retail investors did not qualify as securities.
The settlement reflects the SEC's softer stance toward #crypto under President Trump's administration, which has discontinued numerous industry lawsuits.
Ripple executives Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen were named in the original complaint, which alleged unregistered securities sales through
$XRP.
