The activation of Pectra on the #Ethereum #core network is the most significant update to the network since the merger in 2022.

Launched at epoch 364032 around 6:05 a. m. ET, the Pectra update is Ethereum's largest update in terms of EIPs. It contains code changes that improve steaking efficiency, user experience, validators, and Layer 2 scalability.

The update was rolled out after extensive testing on the Holesky, Sepolia, and Hoodi test networks, which initially experienced configuration issues. Despite issues on the test networks, including an incorrect validator configuration on the Holesky network, the launch of the Hoodi test network in March 2025 enabled today's launch.

Pectra is based on the March 2024 Dencun update, which introduced proto-danksharding via EIP-4844. With 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), Pectra addresses critical bottlenecks in the network. The goals of the update are threefold: eliminate network inefficiencies, improve user experience, and lay the groundwork for future updates such as Fusaka, which will introduce Verkle Trees and PeerDAS to further scale the network.
