x402 Protocol Unlocks Autonomous Transactions for AI Agents Without Human Intervention
#Coinbase has introduced x402, a new payments protocol enabling #stablecoin transfers over standard internet protocols that allows AI agents to transact autonomously.
The protocol resurrects the experimental HTTP 402 "Payment Required" status code to create a #payment system native to the internet.
Stablecoin payments are embedded directly into web interactions with minimal code integration, designed for both humans and AI to exchange value as easily as data.
Circle VP Gagan Mac said x402 "elegantly simplifies real-time monetization" and unlocks "exciting new use cases like micropayments for AI agents and apps."
The launch partners include AWS, #Circle, #Anthropic, and Near Protocol, focusing on transforming AI agents into independent economic actors.
