Tech giant Microsoft Corp. has <a href="https://twitter.com/BradSmi/status/1780092703872782782" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" data-wpel-link="external">pledged</a> a $1.5 billion investment in UAE’s top AI firm, G42, solidifying its move away from China.

Brad Smith, Microsoft’s President, will join G42’s board, and G42 will leverage Microsoft’s Azure cloud for AI applications. This expansion follows consultations with the UAE and US governments.
Peng Xiao, Group Chief Executive Officer of G42, said, “This partnership significantly enhances our international market presence, combining G42’s unique AI capabilities with Microsoft’s robust global infrastructure.”
Smith emphasized the US government’s support for fostering responsible tech partnerships. G42’s decision to pivot from China and embrace American technology came after discussions with the US Commerce Department, steering towards a mutually beneficial understanding.
G42, a key player in UAE’s AI sector, spans cloud computing to driverless cars and operates under UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s umbrella. Microsoft’s investment secures a minority stake in G42, with plans for a $1 billion developer fund and data center collaborations in Africa and Central Asia.
This strategic partnership accelerates cloud and AI accessibility globally, aligning with US policies on tech engagement and responsible AI practices.
