The well-known animated series Futurama released a new episode on Hulu on Aug. 6, poking fun at the world of cryptocurrency mining, according to <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/futurama-reboot-takes-aim-at-bitcoin-miners" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">cointelegraph</a>. 
In the episode titled “How the West Was 1010001,” the main characters find themselves in debt and journey to “Crypto Country.” Here, they seek “cheap, filthy <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-mining-with-flare-gas-a-green-solution-or-environmental-setback/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">electricity</a>” for Bitcoin mining, mirroring the real-world hunt for affordable energy. 
The episode includes jokes about gathering thallium for crypto mining chips and moving to "Doge City." Interestingly, the characters' actions are portrayed as using colossal amounts of power, affecting the atmosphere. This parody not only targets Bitcoin but also makes references to <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/binance-pool-breaks-ground-with-bitcoin-cash-mining-service/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ethereum</a> and the use of robot heads in mining. 
Futurama, which aired first in 1999, had not previously mentioned cryptocurrency. Since then, digital assets have made their way into mainstream entertainment, from South Park to Mission: Impossible. 
The episode did not explain why characters would still be mining Bitcoin in 3023, despite the BTC <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/heat-waves-and-halving-bitcoin-miners-cash-in-amid-rising-prices/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">halving</a> process ending around 2140. Yet, the humorous take on mining in the fictionalized future emphasizes the growing cultural awareness of cryptocurrency. It's a sign that crypto, once a niche technology, is now firmly part of our pop culture landscape.
