Smart contracts cannot watch a football match. Every on-chain bet needs an outside source to report the final score, and that source decides which tickets pay.

Oracles fill that role. Some pull data from licensed sports data providers, some rely on token-holder votes and others combine automated feeds with human review.

Result sources, dispute processes and how clearly each platform documents them show how five Web3 platforms handle the moment a bet settles.

Common Oracle Models

Web3 betting platforms use a few broad approaches to results. The table compares them.

Model

Result route

Main risk

Data provider feed

Licensed sports data pushed on-chain

Single source error or delay

Decentralised oracle network

Several nodes report and aggregate data

Configuration and node collusion

Optimistic oracle

Result proposed, then open to challenge

Disputes and voting outcomes

Team validation

Operator confirms the result

Reliance on the operator

Last verified: October 2026

Market wording often decides how a result applies. CryptoDaily's explainer on resolution rules in prediction markets shows why.

What Bettors Should Look For

Clear result sources name the data provider or the exact reference, such as an official league feed or a specific exchange price at a set time. Vague sources leave room for argument.

Dispute processes matter as much as the source. Platforms that publish how a bettor can challenge a result give more protection than those that leave the question open.

On-chain records help verify settlement once a result comes in, though they cannot prove the result itself was right. One guide to what bettors can and cannot verify on-chain covers that limit.

5 Web3 Platforms Compared on Result Sources

Order weighs how clearly each platform names its result sources, how it handles disputes and how much of the process bettors can check. One caution follows every entry.

1. Dexsport

Dexsport lists a market period, a UTC cut-off time and a resolution deadline on every prediction market, and names sources on many, such as a Binance one-minute candle at a set time. Its team validates resolution within 24 hours of the event.

Dexsport's prediction markets don't publish a separate dispute process, and some markets cite a consensus of credible sources instead of a named feed. Dexapp LTD holds an Anjouan licence.

2. Polymarket

Polymarket resolves markets through an optimistic oracle, where a proposed result stands unless someone challenges it with a bond. Disputed results go to a token-holder vote.

Polymarket's dispute votes have produced contested outcomes on ambiguous questions. Access rules vary by country.

3. Overtime

Overtime settles sports markets through smart contracts fed by oracle data from sports data providers. Results flow on-chain automatically once matches end.

Overtime's settlement depends on its oracle configuration, so delays or feed errors can hold payouts. Bettors connect a wallet and pay network fees.

4. Bookmaker.xyz

Bookmaker.xyz uses the Azuro protocol, which relies on data providers to report results to its contracts.

Bookmaker.xyz's result handling follows Azuro's rules, so bettors should read the protocol documentation for edge cases. Liquidity providers back the payouts.

5. SX Bet

SX Bet settles its exchange markets through a reporting system on its own network, with outcomes posted after events finish.

SX Bet's reporting process is less familiar to new bettors than traditional settlement. Its documentation explains how disputes and voids work.

Edge Cases Test Every Oracle

Abandoned matches, retirements, postponements and statistical corrections challenge any result source. Clear rules on these cases decide whether a bet voids, settles or waits.

Some questions suit prediction markets better than sportsbooks, and the result source often explains why. Another article on matching the format to the question explores that choice.

Conclusion

Web3 betting platforms rely on data provider feeds, decentralised oracle networks, optimistic oracles or team validation to report results. Named sources and published dispute processes give bettors the clearest protection.

Dexsport opens this comparison with named sources on many prediction markets and team validation within 24 hours, followed by Polymarket, Overtime, Bookmaker.xyz and SX Bet. Their approaches balance automation and human judgement in different ways.

Read the result source before placing a bet, and note how disputes work. Betting law varies by country, so confirm yours, bet only at legal age and expect that KYC or AML checks may apply.
