Tether <a href="https://tether.io/news/tether-announces-the-launch-of-usat-the-federally-regulated-dollar-backed-stablecoin-made-in-america/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">introduced</a> USAT on Tuesday, a federally regulated dollar-backed stablecoin issued through Anchorage Digital Bank and designed for the American market. The $10 million initial supply launches as an <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/explained/erc-20-tokens-explained" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ERC-20 token</a> on the Ethereum blockchain under compliance with the U.S. GENIUS Act.
Anchorage Digital Bank serves as the issuer while Cantor Fitzgerald acts as reserve custodian and primary dealer. The stablecoin became available immediately on Bybit, Crypto(dot)com, Kraken, OKX and MoonPay following the announcement.
Bo Hines, former crypto policy advisor to President Donald Trump, leads <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/tether-usat/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">USAT </a>as CEO after his appointment last September. Hines previously directed the White House Council of Advisers on Digital Assets before joining Tether for the U.S. expansion project.
The launch follows Congress passing the GENIUS Act in July 2025, which established the first federal framework for payment stablecoins in the United States. Tether's flagship USDT token, with $187 billion in supply, remains unavailable to American customers despite backing by dollar-denominated reserves.
Paolo Ardoino, Tether CEO,<a href="https://x.com/paoloardoino/status/2016142655785181350" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> stated</a> that USDT has spent over a decade delivering trust and utility at a global scale. <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/tether-usat/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">USAT</a> extends that track record by providing a federally regulated product tailored specifically for U.S. institutional and retail users.
Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, emphasized the bank's five-year history as a federally regulated institution built for digital assets. The partnership positions USAT issuance within the U.S. banking system under regulatory supervision and accountability standards.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said at the World Economic Forum last week that stablecoin adoption across global banking is accelerating toward 40% compound annual growth. Financial institutions have moved beyond treating dollar-pegged tokens as experimental products.
Tether first announced plans for USAT during CEO Ardoino's visit to the United States as Congress debated stablecoin legislation. The company initially targeted a late 2024 launch but delayed to align with regulatory developments and the Trump administration's crypto-friendly policy stance.
The stablecoin has not yet appeared on Tether's transparency page, which currently lists four tokens, including USDT, Chinese yuan-pegged CHNt, Mexican peso-pegged MXNt, and gold-backed XAUt. USAT represents Tether's entry into the US market after years of regulatory scrutiny and previous investigations into potential illicit activity involvement.
