The Indian police have implemented artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies to track and monitor the criminals released from prisons. The Andhra Pradesh police in Vijayawada implemented an AI jail monitoring advancement to monitor recently released criminals and prevent them from engaging in antisocial activities.
According to the police, if the AI detects some suspicious activity while tracking the criminals, they can immediately inform the local police about them to prevent further crimes. In the past, police lacked advanced technologies due to the absence of a system to monitor and track criminals who were released from prisons.
However, now the new technologies with advanced AI tools have made it easy and possible. This advanced technology combines AI tools with CCTV surveillance and human intelligence to maintain detailed records of released prisoners across Andhra Pradesh and other states.&nbsp;
As reported by the <a href="https://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/vijayawada/2025/Mar/25/ai-based-jail-monitoring-system-in-vijayawada" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">New Indian </a>Express, NTR District Commissioner of Police SV Rajashekhar Babu stated that facial recognition cameras placed at key locations such as railway stations, bus stands, and public places help police monitor the criminal’s activities and interactions.

 CP Babu explained that, “If a person with a history of robbery or other criminal offenses is released, they usually visit family and friends first before planning their next steps. If we detect them contacting known criminals or planning illegal activities, we alert the local police to summon them and their family for counseling.”

He further added that, “The Jail Monitoring System helps in preventing crime and serves as a deterrent for habitual offenders. If a released criminal is found frequently visiting Vijayawada without a valid reason, the police issue strict warnings. If they have a legitimate reason, we do not interfere. However, if their visits raise suspicion, we take preventive measures.”
The police also claimed that since the AI system was implemented by the Vijayawada police, they have prevented 200 previous criminals from entering the city, particularly decreasing further troubles and crimes.
