The Trump Organization, the company led by the family of current American president Donald Trump, is making a bold move into the digital realm. According to a recent filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the organization has submitted a request to register the trademark “Trump” as part of an ambitious expansion into NFTs and the metaverse.

“Trump”, soon to be a brand in the metaverse?

The document filed with the USPTO outlines a wide range of potential products and services. Among these are NFT exchange platforms, digital assets for collecting, as well as a metaverse branded “TRUMP”. This virtual world could allow users to interact, purchase digital properties, or participate in immersive experiences under the Trump brand.

The “intent to use” filing, however, means that the project is still in concept form for now: the company will need to demonstrate actual use of the trademark to obtain definitive protection. Moreover, the trademark registration process can be complex, especially when it involves such a high-profile name. Additionally, trademark laws in the digital realm are still evolving, which could influence the final decision.

An opportunity to strengthen its image

Donald Trump, known for his marketing acumen and penchant for the media, may see this initiative as an opportunity to strengthen his image among a tech-savvy audience. If this project comes to fruition, it would mark a new diversification for the Trump Organization, which has traditionally been associated with real estate, hospitality, and media.

Companies like Nike, Gucci, and Disney have already taken similar steps to protect their brands and secure a presence in this rapidly expanding digital landscape.

The Trump Organization’s move confirms that major companies recognize the importance of the metaverse and digital assets. It also illustrates a growing trend at the intersection of politics, business, and technology, where image and intellectual property play a central role in the digital economy of tomorrow.
