<a href="https://cryptoticker.io/en/changpeng-zhao-net-worth-decline" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Binance founder Changpeng "CZ" Zhao</a> might be released on Friday, potentially two days earlier than his scheduled release date of September 29th (Sunday), a<a href="https://www.bop.gov/policy/progstat/5140_036.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ccording to a legal interpretation.</a>
According to <a href="https://www.coindesk.com/policy/2024/09/27/binance-founder-changpeng-cz-zhao-could-be-released-on-friday/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reports</a>, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Federal Bureau of Prisons has a rule allowing inmates, whose release date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, to be released on the preceding weekday. However, this is subject to certain conditions—if another jurisdiction seeks custody or any other reason arises that justifies holding the inmate until their official release date, they may not be released early.
In April, CZ received a four-month prison sentence after pleading guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act due to inadequate know-your-customer (KYC) measures at Binance.

If released on Friday, CZ will have served 116 days in total. He spent around three months at Lompoc II, a low-security prison located on California’s central coast, before being transferred to a halfway house in San Pedro, California, in late August.
A Binance spokesperson commented, “We are thrilled that CZ will soon be reunited with his family. While he is not currently involved in the management or operations of Binance, we look forward to seeing his future endeavors. Under the guidance of our current team, Binance has continued to flourish over the past year, now serving more than 230 million users globally.”
