Authorities in the Republic of Dagestan have uncovered underground cryptocurrency mining farms being used to circumvent cryptocurrency mining legislation. According to the region's Prime Minister, Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, such farms were found in one of the districts, indicating a new level of secrecy in <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/abkhazia-intensifies-crackdown-on-illegal-crypto-mining/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">illegal mining</a> operations.
Miners are installing equipment underground to avoid detection and bypass industrial <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/minnesota-man-faces-accusations-of-electricity-theft-for-bitcoin-mining/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">electricity</a> tariffs. Experts estimate that such farms can consume up to several megawatts of power, causing damage to the region's energy infrastructure and leading to network overloads. Last year, over 50 illegal mining farms were discovered in Dagestan, collectively consuming more than 100 MW of power.
In response to these findings, Dagestani authorities have called for intensified measures against illegal mining. Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov emphasized that the owners of such setups are devising new methods to evade the law, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring and prevention of such activities. Penalties for illegal mining include fines up to 1 million rubles and confiscation of equipment.
