The popular messaging platform Telegram, known as the home of Toncoin (TON), recently updated its Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, making a significant change regarding chat privacy. This update was noted after claims that Telegram had removed a critical privacy statement for the platform. 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="strong-significant-change-in-telegram-strong">Significant Change in Telegram</h2> 
Telegram updated its FAQ section, moving the chat privacy explanation to another section under the question, “What can I do if a bot or channel violates my copyright?” Before this change, users were assured that all Telegram chats and group conversations were private and that the platform did not process requests related to these chats. 
Experts highlight this change in Telegram’s FAQ section as significant. It is known that Telegram’s founder Pavel Durov was recently detained in France on serious charges and was released after four days. Following Durov’s release, it was claimed that significant changes would be made within the app. Indeed, this latest change in the FAQ section suggests that this transformation may have already begun.

Meanwhile, Telegram’s founder Durov spoke for the first time after being detained and then released in France. In a statement on his personal X account, Durov revealed that he was interrogated by French authorities for four days upon arriving in Paris and was told he could be held personally responsible for illegal activities conducted by Telegram users. Durov expressed his surprise at the situation, pointing out that Telegram has an official European Union representative responsible for handling such public requests. 
Criticizing the approach of the French authorities, Durov emphasized that multiple avenues were provided for reaching out for assistance, including a help line established with Telegram to combat terrorism threats in France. He underscored that using outdated laws to hold a CEO accountable for third-party actions on the platform could hinder technological innovation. 
Addressing more general issues related to Telegram, Durov highlighted the significant challenge of balancing privacy and security while operating under different legal frameworks across regions. He reiterated Telegram’s commitment to protecting user privacy, especially under authoritarian regimes, and noted that the platform has exited markets like Russia and Iran where it could not comply with local regulatory demands. 
Durov acknowledged that while Telegram strives to maintain global consistency to continue operating, there could be some improvements in how authorities communicate their requests. He countered claims that Telegram is an unregulated platform, stating that the platform removes millions of harmful posts and channels daily and regularly publishes transparency reports. Despite recent issues tied to its rapid growth to 950 million users, Durov guaranteed that steps would be taken to enhance the platform’s security and moderation.

Following these events, the hardest hit was The Open Network (TON) network’s primary asset, Toncoin. Before Durov’s detention, Toncoin was trading above $6.5, but it fell to around $4.5 after <a href="https://newslinker.co" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-wpel-link="exclude">the news</a> of his detention.
