Mysten Labs, the creator of the Sui blockchain, is targeting the first half of 2025 for deliveries of SuiPlay0X1 — the first handheld gaming device to integrate the Sui blockchain.&nbsp;
The firm <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://www.globenewswire.com/news-release/2024/09/03/2940041/0/en/Mysten-Labs-Unveils-Specs-and-Updates-on-SuiPlay0X1-The-First-Blockchain-Based-Handheld-Gaming-Device.html" rel="null" target="null" text="null">said</a> on Sept. 3 that it’s now taking preorders for the $599 device, which will be able to play PC games and <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/hamster-kombat-web3-gaming-adoption" rel="null" target="null" text="null">games</a> <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/explained/what-are-web3-games-how-do-they-work" rel="null" target="null" text="null">built on the Sui blockchain</a>.&nbsp;
The first batch of devices is expected to ship in the first half of 2025, it added.

“At the end of the day, gamers don’t care what tech is powering a game,” said <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/mysten-labs-sui-network-partners-with-f1-red-bull-racing-team" rel="null" target="null" text="null">Mysten Labs</a> co-founder Adeniyi Abiodun.
“The SuiPlay0X1 will showcase that games seamlessly incorporating blockchain technology look and feel no different than traditional ‘Web2’ games,” he added.&nbsp;

According to newly released device specifications, SuiPlay0X1 will weigh 677 grams, have an integrated graphics processing unit and use the Playtron GameOS, a Linux-based games operating system that can run many AAA PC games without modification.&nbsp;
<a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/sui-object-centric-model-move-programming-language" rel="null" target="null" text="null">Sui-powered</a> games destined for the device include the third-person shooter XOCIETY and the Nordic-inspired medieval Brawler Royale, DARKTIMES.

Mysten Labs, <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/move-langauge-facebook-s-stablecoin-diem-defi" rel="null" target="null" text="null">founded by four</a> former Meta crypto executives in 2021, first announced it was working on a new handheld gaming device during a Paris Sui Basecamp event in April.
It however, joins a sizable list of non-web3 handheld gaming PCs, such as Valve Corporation’s Steam Deck, the Asus ROG Ally X and the Lenovo Legion Go.&nbsp;
Research from Omidia <a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://omdia.tech.informa.com/pr/2024/apr/omdia-research-handheld-gaming-devices-will-reach-29-3-million-in-2028" rel="null" target="null" text="null">states</a> there were 19.3 million handheld gaming devices sold globally in 2023, and could increase to 29.3 million units in 2028.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, preorders for the SuiPlay0X1 can be paid in Sui (<a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/sui-price-index" rel="null" target="null" text="null">SUI</a>), Ether (<a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/ethereum-price" rel="null" target="null" text="null">ETH</a>) and Solana (<a data-ct-non-breakable="null" href="https://cointelegraph.com/solana-price-index" rel="null" target="null" text="null">SOL</a>).
