<p>Popular crypto exchanges like Coinbase are now making the first move to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into crypto transactions. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong stated that the Coinbase developer team successfully conducted the first AI-to-AI crypto transaction on the platform.</p>
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-coinbase-conducts-ai-crypto-transactions">Coinbase Conducts AI Crypto Transactions</h2>
<p>Brian Armstrong announced the milestone achievement by crypto exchange Coinbase recording the first-ever AI-to-AI crypto transaction. This transaction involved one AI platform buying “tokens” from another AI, but not entirely in the traditional crypto sense.</p>
<p>It basically involved the exchange of words between two large language models (LLMs). Coinbase developers conducted these transactions on the Layer 2 Network Base using the USDC stablecoin while demonstrating the potential for AI agents to conduct financial transactions instantly, globally, and without fees.</p>
<p>Armstrong further highlighted that the AI agents don’t have access to bank accounts as of now. However, they can hold crypto wallets enabling them to transact with other AI, humans, and merchants.</p>
<p>This is still a significant step in allowing the AI agents to perform useful steps autonomously.</p>
<p>Armstrong noted that AI agents currently lack the ability to transact to acquire resources. For instance, booking travel or accessing paid APIs, due to their inability to use traditional payment methods like credit cards.</p>
<p>Coinbase is currently encouraging its developers to work more on LLMs and AI models and integrate them into crypto wallets using the Coinbase Developer Platform’s MPC Wallets. This will also help in potentially unlocking new capabilities for AI in the digital economy.</p>
<p>Furthermore, Armstrong has pitched for working on AI-enabled checkouts, while predicting that the AI-to-AI economy could become a significant force in the coming years.</p>
