The Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain is back online after a six-hour outage at around 10:11 pm UTC on Tuesday, caused by a surge in network traffic, which led to a halt in block production.

This latest update came two hours after the TON Foundation officially<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/ton_blockchain/status/1828644569669607839" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> reported</a> a disruption in block production due to network congestion. Validators could not clean the database of old transactions, leading to a loss of consensus. However, the “TON Core” called validators to restart at 4:00 am UTC to reestablish consensus.
According to<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://dton.io/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> data</a> from the TON transaction scanner Dton.io and<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://tonscan.org/blocks?wc=-1" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> data</a> from Tonscan, the TON blockchain is again producing new blocks. Currently, the network has reached 231,879,089 blocks.
The surge in transactions that caused the temporary halt in block production is<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/tonkinubot/status/1828591457986326761" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> believed</a> to have been caused by an airdrop of $DOGS, a new TON-based memecoin. A TON Foundation member named Justin<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/maverickqe/status/1828632344497885678?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1828632344497885678%7Ctwgr%5Eb2943de5826f44b1e9a2477282d0b29d9c3df17e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcrypto.news%2Fton-blockchain-resumes-operations-following-dogs-fuelled-outage%2F" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> confirmed</a> the disruption was due to overwhelming traffic from users trying to access their rewards. Blockchain explorer Tonscan <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/tonscancom/status/1828400755503407566?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1828400755503407566%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcrypto.news%2Fton-blockchain-resumes-operations-following-dogs-fuelled-outage%2F" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reported</a> that high memecoin traffic led to temporarily suspending “central services.” Exchanges like<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/binance/status/1828001593641312340?ref=blockhead.co" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> Binance</a>,<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/Bybit_Official/status/1828361787239965071" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> Bybit</a>, and<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/okx/status/1828634398117548165?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1828634398117548165%7Ctwgr%5Eb2943de5826f44b1e9a2477282d0b29d9c3df17e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcrypto.news%2Fton-blockchain-resumes-operations-following-dogs-fuelled-outage%2F" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> OKX</a> suspended transactions due to the high traffic.&nbsp;
Notably, this memecoin is being<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://x.com/realDogsHouse/status/1811413697862213669" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> promoted</a> as the “most Telegram-native memecoin” and was inspired by Spotty, a mascot promoted by Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram. The memecoin became available for public trading in the last 36 hours.

Meanwhile, $DOGS has seen a significant price drop, now trading at around $0.0012 with a market cap of $645 million. Trading activity has also decreased, with the 24-hour trading volume dropping to just over $1 billion, according to data<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/dogs/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> from CoinMarketCap</a>.&nbsp;
